ROSIE' S REALLY STRANGE BEHAVIOR

Yesterday I went with DH on a road trip and left Rosie at home. We were gone about 7 hours. That is the first time I have left her that long since my surgery. She has never had any SA at all. When we got home, she and I took a nap while her Daddy went to the office for an hour and then he came home and fixed us something to eat. Rosie started being a little hyper then and wanting me to play with her. I took her outside and she pottied and ran back inside; but she kept pestering me to play with her. I said to her, something on the order of I took you our to play and you came back in. Well her daddy heard me and said something on the order of come on, I will take you. Then she did something scary. She ran and got her throw toy and brought it with her and ran along with him outside. She has never taken a toy outside. She has never played fetch outside either. Well DH threw the toy until he worried about Rosie and quit. Her tongue was hanging out and she was hassling so bad. Then when she came in we couldn't get her to calm down. I wouldn't let her just keep drinking water and had to take up the bowl to keep her from getting sick. She was acting like she was on something. Finally I got the brush and put her in my lap and started just gently brushing her to calm her. Then we all climbed up in the bed as usual and went to sleep. Do you reckon that she was just trying to please us to that we wouldn't leave her again.

When she wants something from us, her trick is to run from one end of the room around the chair and back, sit and look at me, then repeat, until I get tickled and give in. I have a mirror at the end of my bedroom and she will run and bark at that dog and back again, sit at my feet and look up at me as if to say now can I have your attention.

Previous to my surgery, I left Rosie frequently all day. Yes I took her to work with me every day. But if I needed to go somewhere for the day, taking her was never an option. It is hot in the south in the summertime and she couldn't be left in the car and besides she gets carsick. I am already obsessing about what to do the weekend of the 21th. I have to go to Knoxville for my grandson's graduation. What to do with Rosie during the ceremony. DH wants to start home right after so will check out of the hotel before the ceremony. I hate graduations. Did I mention I have 12 grandchildren? and I have 8 more to go!

Hmmm, was the last time you left Rosie for a long period of time when you were in the hospital? Poor Rosie might have thought you'd be gone for a long time again and was worried.

That is so sweet to think that she was trying to please you so you won't leave again. Don't you wish you could just tell her where you were going and when you would be back? I struggle with guilt everytime I leave and Piper gives me the sad eyes.

I'm also wondering if she remembers how long you were gone for surgery - or she sensed how badly you felt when you first came home.... Can Rosie go with you - but stay at your grandson's house during the ceremony??

You can probably take Rosie in a stroller, I would, just throw a blanket over it and nobody every even knows.

Gucci does get hyper sometimes and maybe it was her excitement to see you, maybe she was just in a good mood for the warmer Spring weather? Maybe she ate a coffee bean on the floor But I say, the more you wear them out ,the better they sleep it off!

Rosie is going with me regardless. I may have to just keep the hotel room for another day during the ceremony. I dare not risk taking her in. I am to old to be excorted out by security. Rosie has a really loud bark and I can just see her barking at all the strange noises. I would have to pretend to have a heart attack (probably would not have to pretend) and distrupt the ceremony. You know though might be just the thing. Then the rest of the grand children would not want me to come to their graduations--just send money granny!

Now that sounds like a plan! I like your thinking, Lucile! I hate graduation ceremonies!

I am going to a graduation at that time also only I'm looking forward to after, we are staying in a bed and breakfast that allows dog if you leave them in your room alone they must be crated and they will check on them. I told DH not this time, we are having some time to ourselves. If we like the place we will go back.

I think Rosie just needed to take the edge off after your being gone so long. She isn't use to it anymore, so it will take her a bit of time to get use to it again.

Maybe my Hav is just a little more hyper, but that sorta just sounds like an average day with Marlowe if you add in a few inexplicable RLHs. A good play session always leaves his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth and gulping down water like he's never seen it before. He'll eventually turn back into a lapdog or curled up on my feet but not until he's got his energy out. Oh and for whatever reason after a particularly long walk (3-4 miles), he'll have the RLHs for 10 mins after we come back inside before he passes out.

Gee! Maybe I shouldn't have worried about her then. I was afraid that she would over heat and PASS OUT. It is all that hair you know. She has been such a couch potato with me these pass months that I had forgotten how active they can be. Actually I have forgotten how active I could be.
