Teeth Cleaning

Having Sasha's teeth cleaned tomorrow. Already feel like a bad mom. No breakfast treat or water after 10:0 p.m. I hope it goes well I really do not like it when they have to "put her under". Any suggestions for feeding after. Will her gums be tender? Linda

She'll be fine. You won't need to change anything. But do watch her gums closely in the next few days.

Some years ago we had Twinkle's and Trip's teeth cleaned like that (I think they were both 7 and now are both 14), and they both ended up with some pretty severe gum disease soon after. We could never determine if it was from the vet using unclean instruments, or maybe some bacteria got pushed up under the gums. If we had known better at the time, we would have put them on an antibiotic right after the cleaning. They both ended up having to have teeth pulled, and their teeth really weren't that bad when we had them cleaned, so we feel sure it was something that happened during the procedure.

I'm sure this is a rare occurence, but I'd still watch closely.

I'm not positive since it's been a long time but I think my vet automatically gave antibiotics after the teeth cleaning. Of course, my poodle had gingivitis so that could by why.

She came through the cleaning fine but has been giving me the "whatfor" since I picked her up. She is doing the low growl, whine combo to let me know how she feels about this. I feel bad but it also makes me laugh just a little, they really have us wrapped around those little paws. LOL Just love her personality.
