Lizzie was first in the pool!

All winter long Lizzie has enjoyed running on the winter loop-loc pool cover. It is kinda like a trampoline! That came off yesterday and today the pool was started up. My daughter and I had just gotten the solar cover on the pool when Lizzie ran on it and quickly learned that it just sits on the water. Poor girl, she was hanging on the side with her bottom in the 57 degree water. Of course I rescue her and the kids are just laughing so hard!! At least she got a RLH out of it-what she always does when wet.

The solar cover on the pool, and the idea that Kodi could fall under it, get trapped and drown before we could get him out, scares me to death!!!!

That scares me too. I take the cover off every morning and it is put back on at night. Plus, she can only get to the pool if a human is with her.

Us too. Your story just sent a little chill down my spine (even though I'm sure it was also funny once you knew she was safe)

My neighbor's little granddaughter fell under the pool cover when her mom was carrying in groceries from the car. She noticed the cat pacing back and forth at the pool and went running out and discovered her daughter in there. Needless to say - that was quite a scare and the granddaughter has since learned to swim! Pools and children or pets really scare me!

We don't ever cover our pool. Rosie can swim if needed and so can the chickens. The only danger is when it freezes over in the winter and then I am real careful with Rosie. I know you have read the story about my little schnauzer that fell through the ice and the Alsation went in and got her after I had given her up for dead. So I don't begrudge Rosie the pee pads at all in the winter.

We don't have a pool, but we used to have a waterfall/pond that DH built. We loved it and grew water plants in it. Then we got Kodi and it was winter, and when he walked on water, out came the pond. Scared the heck out of me and it wasn't that deep, but he was only 3 lbs at the time.

I am thankful that our pool is an above ground Esther Williams, although it looks hideous,it is relatively safe for the animals and children as we only put the ladder up when we are using it,and the moment the last person comes out it's off with the ladder. In winter it has a proper cover so is safe for the cats.Dh was going to start the pool up this weekend, and get the heater and pump working, but OMG the weather has turned and it was so cold yesterday and to day is wild and windy,so maybe next weekend.

Kaden got in the pool with my 17yr old son yesterday. He did well and loved it. I wanted to make sure he knew how to get to the steps. Nevertheless I never let him out alone to potty for fear of him falling in but after yesterday I at least know he can swin and knows how to get out at the steps.
