Rumba's big day!!!
Breeding Havanese is not for the faint of heart. People ask if we fall in love with our pups and the answer is yes, we do. Here is the story of one such pup!
Rumba definetly tugged on the heart strings of many loving, kindhearted people. As Melissa has told you he is a very special pup. I had tried to place him as an older pup and people would ask, "What is wrong with him, why have you had him so long?". Of course I told them that he was more than perfect, which he was and that they would really love him. He stayed with Melissa for awhile and I think she ran into the same thing. Even Joan tried to help and Rumba was not to find a home just then. So Rumba came back to us and it was very hard to let this loving boy go.
Pam had a person that owned a pup from her, and the neighbors had two pups from her. They also had neighbors that had two pups(Havanese) from another breeder. Well, the middle person wanted another to keep her Havanese company. That was going to be Rumba. Just think, six Havanese as play buddies. Great. Well, Rumba flew across country with me, and many of you were fortunat enough to meet him. I do not say that as the breeder, I say that on Rumba's own merit. He is a lover and gets along in any situation. Plus he's the cat's meow<g>. So, the neighbor came to pick up the pup for her friend. After all, what are friends for?
She came and got him and that was that!
Oh no, Mr. Bill!!!! She and her husband fell IN LOVE with this pup! She could not, would not give this pup up....I am not kidding. She will do anything for this pup. SHe called me and wanted me to find another, older, perfect, potty trained pup for her friend.
Well I told her she had to deal with her friend. It was her pup and she would have to buy it from her if she wanted him. I mean tears were shed, by everyone. I got phone calls from all parties. When the neighbor came home she was met by all neighbors in her driveway, pleading the case of the nice lady that picked up Rumba. SO, my puppy buyer said OK that the neighbor could keep HER pup. OMG, I had tearing people on the phone ALL day. Well, I told my puppy buyer that I would find her something. I had connections, I would not leave her alone. I told her to chill for a few days and she was sooooo sad.
You see, as breeders we have bad days. We have pups left, and we think we will never sell them. Too many backyard breeders, too many Havanese. Too old puppies, etc. That was not my problem today. My problem was I had too many people to love Rumba. This is not a sad story for Rumba, as I would love to have people cry for me.( they cry because of me at times<g>)
I got a call this morning. THe neighbor who came to pick Rumba up went to the neighbors house and gave my puppy buyer Rumba. SHe could not hurt her friend. My puppy buyer called me and said she got Rumba and would never let him go. SHe had already sat on the sofa with him for hours. I told her he needed to come up for air every now and again. Suffocation by hugging was just not allowed.
Oh, and a good thing. Rumba has Angels on either side of him.
I will get pictures. Sweet Dreams Rumba Bumba, we miss you....
