beach vacation...

we have finally scheduled a family beach vacation with all 6 grandkids, 8 adults and two dogs Thought we might not get to take them since at first the rental said only "up to one pet"! Why not just say "one pet allowed"? However, after discussing with them, they agreed to let me bring them BOTH!

This will be the first trip to the beach with the havs - any advise from you guys so I can be prepared?

Lots of pics of the dogs. And maybe a few of the tourists in bikinis is always welcome. Enjoy , sounds like fun.

I've found that the best way to deal with sand is to keep Kodi outside until he's dry, then brush it out of his coat. Once he is for sure done for the day, I rinse him off with plain water, either let him air dry or blow dry him, depending on the weather (if it's too humid, it just takes too long to air dry) and then do his serious grooming for the day.

We have an outside shower on our travel trailer, which is great for rinsing dogs and kid's feet!

We took Lizzie to the beach last year and she absolutely LOVED digging in the sand. She was only 4 1/2 months old, but she could sure dig a big hole!! We are going again this year and I am sure she will have a blast.

Karen-thanks for the sand tip. I am sure after a week she will be a mess.

My advice is to just enjoy them. If you do basic grooming each day, it shouldn't be too bad. Save the big grooming for when you get home.

figured I would groom before we leave, rinse and comb while there, and then groom, groom, groom when we get home
Oh, I also have to call the County Clerk to check on beach permits for them! Of course, since I work in our County Clerk's office, I know it will be best to call ahead since a small fee on the front-end is better than a FINE after the fact!
We are not going until Sept, but I will be sure to post plenty of pix.

Beach permits??? Seriously?! That would never even have crossed my mind.

Yeah, we've never needed a beach permit for any of the places we stay... there are just certain hours the dogs are not allowed on the beach. At the beach we go to most often, dogs can't be on the beach between 8AM and 5PM... the times that most people have families down there swimming. Who wants wet, sandy dogs running over their towels and shaking water on them? That's perfect for me, because I MUCH prefer those off-hours anyway. I'm not a "crowd" person.
