Question Too hot to walk

Im not sure if there is a thread on this already but i was just curious, how hot is too hot to take the little ones outside? Currently its 96 degrees here very humid. Ninja seems to be panting even in the ac until i put it up one speed. He's better now but i am worried it might be to hot to go out...any thoughts?

I don't think it gets "too hot to go outside"... but just as with humans, you may want to limit physical activity when it's really hot/humid. On a day like today, (it was 96 here, too during the heat of the day) I might take him for a walk first thing in the AM, when it's cooler. Then I still take him out for potty breaks during the rest of the day, but we don't do anything strenuous.

Oh, and if you have a yard, no matter how hot it is out, as long as you're willing to clean up the wet dog afterwards, most of them LOVE playing in the sprinkler!!!

I live in Texas and it is so hot right now. I do walk Oscar a little in the morning when it is not so hot. I think that their little paws must burn on the hot pavement, so I make sure that Oscar can walk in the grassy area if he wants to.

great question! It can get upwards of 110+ here and on those days it's potty and back to the a/c for sure! LOL I figure if it's too hot for me, it's too hot for Tillie!
Otherwise, I would think an early morning, or late evening walk would work okay.

I've been taking walks at dusk, which is maybe 8:30 or 9pm here. It's still plenty hot - last night it was actually dark and I still broke a sweat going at a slow pace, but Gracie seems to be much better without the sun.

I've read about vests and bandanas that help keep dogs cool, but I don't have any experience with them.

My guys love walks they do have a dog door. We take a small walk just before dark. My main concern in the heat is the pavement, if it is too hot for you to walk barefoot best to wait until latter when things cool off. They also tire sooner when it's hot.

It is HOT (90's) and HUMID here. No walks here for several weeks. I would have to get out of the house by 7-8am to get that walk in for the boys. I end up letting them RLH in the yard early in the morning.

Breaks during the day consist of little breaks less than 5 minutes to potty.

A trainer told me to add ten degrees to the actual temperature for our dogs. So, if we think it's a perfect 80 degrees it's actually 90 for the dogs receiving heat off the ground.
Early morning and dusk walks for my dogs through the summer.

I walk my guys in this heat but I take them to a place they can swim first. We walk along the stream and they jump in periodically. When it's this hot, I will only take them to places they can get wet and then walk. They really enjoy the water!
