what a weird eater!

So Sophie has never been food driven. She eats all her food after she's thought about it awhile. She's not crazy about any treat. Training is difficult. But tonight I needed to give her her Interceptor heartworm med. She does like Pillpockets, so I put it in a whole one, which I never give her. She was able to spit it out and unwrap it completely. Twice. So I put it in her food with her usual ricotta and parmesan and she ate it. Meanwhile I spilled a container of blueberries when I was getting the cheese out, and she gobbled every one she could get. How could a blueberry taste better to a dog than an Interceptor "flavor tab"?

Kodi won't eat his Interceptor unless it's hidden in a piece of cheese either... And he'll do ANYTHING for blueberries!!!

Buster will eat his flavor tabs, but Buffy won't. The only thing that works with her is Philly cream cheese, She doesn't even lck it. It slides right down with the tablet inside.

I soften a piece of cheese a bit and put it around the pill. First I give Abby a piece "without" the pill and then give her the pill piece. By then she is so excited she gobbles it down! Did the blueberries give Sophie diarrhea?

Kodi eats blueberries all the time and never has a problem with diarrhea.

I've never thought of using braunschweiger before. I'm going to have to do that next month! Right now I just pop it in her mouth and hold it shut until she swallows because she spits it out of everything else.

I'm a cutie and I know it!

You might try rubbing her neck gently - up and down- to help her swallow more easily while you hold her mouth shut. That used to work with one of my Lhasas. She used to spit out pills, too, after I was sure she must have swallowed the pill packed inside the Pill Pocket.
