Ruffles takes her first swim, by accident.

Today we had our neighbors over for a swim. They brought their dog and another dog they were watching for the day. Their dog (Sam) is a lab/shepperd mix. The other dog (Jack) is a german shepperd. Both very mellow dogs. Ruffles was standing next to the pool, right on the edge. When she went to step back Sam was right there. He bumped into her and knocked her into the pool. I was right there. She was only in for a second or two before I fished her out. She did well treading water for that second or two. She was fine, just wet and needing a brush out. As soon as she was back outside she was running around the pool again. On a normal day the pool gate is kept closed and she's not allowed around the pool if were aren't there for just this reason. But at least she's not scared of the pool but we don't want her in it anyways.

Aw, I bet she loved it once she realized what happened!

One thing to be aware of. I brought my old dog to a swim party one July 4th. There were other dogs there and the three of them played all day, pushed each other into the pool and generally had the time of their lives. The next day Layla couldn't walk as she had torn her pads to shreds on the funky surface around the pool and also pulling herself out (silly dog wasn't interested in the stairs!)

Something to be aware of!

Thanks for the heads up. Thankfully our concrete around the pool it's as smooth or smoother than the sidewalk. I may bring her in at some point, in a more controlled fashion. But for now she still likes hanging out around the pool and not in it. Especially when we have chipmunk holes on that side of the yard. She loves trying to dig them up.
