Waiting on Sabine

Hi all,
Just scheduled a consult with Sabine but it's not until the week of Aug. 22. I've been feeding Coco home cooked food for about 1 month now (because I spoiled him and he refuses to eat dog food). My concerns are he's not getting any supplements. He's 8 months old and weighs 16lbs. I know he's a big one but not fat. He eats boiled chicken, carrots or peas, eggs, pasta, cheese, ground beef, ground turkey, not altogether of course. Is it safe enough to wait for Sabine or should I buy some supplements?

Any input is appreciated.

Good for you. You won't regret it. Hang tight. Just watch how much you're feeding. I'm fairly familiar with the extras Sabine recommends but it's based on your dog and the food types she recommends. The only thing I feel safe recommending is this http://www.houseofnutrition.com/733739029133.html probiotics. I just ordered some and they're in the mail . They will sit in my mailbox for a week because I'm off camping. LOL Not to worry , they don't need to be refrigerated. One pill daily. Be patient. It's a virtue LOL That sounds alot for eight months. JMO. Carrots and peas are cooked right? They need to be , or pureed for dogs to absorb them properly.

I just spoke to her to tell her I was giving her a break for eight days since I was going camping. LOL She did say she's very busy. She got three unscheduled consults for dogs with cancer this week alone.

Just read a very helpful hint about how to check for proper weight. Lay your hand flat on the table, fingers together. Run your other hand across the fingers without applying any pressure, this is how it should be if you run your hand along your dog's ribs. I've got one lean one and one who will probably never go off his green bean diet!

Dont worry about it. I started with Sabine about a month ago and Henry couldnt tolerate some of the supplements and we are still trying to work it out. Sabine reassured me that some dogs on elimination diets take a very long time before supplements are all in place. I dont think anything bad will happen before August 22nd - it's right around the corner!

I agree, sit tight! Don't worry too much about the supplements, it will come together in time! that is a long time to wait, but worth it!!
YES, when feeding, be sure you are steaming and pureeing the veggies before feeding, otherwise they can't absorb the nutrients!
