I have a question on Jumping and judging distance.

My 1 yr. old male havanese seems to not always judge his jumping abilitys. Sometimes when he jumps up on the couch, he entirely misses it yet he can play around and jump from one chair to the other fine. His hair isn't the problem but I wonder if this is something to look into. This is my first havanese and always had Shi-tzus before. Is this common at this age?

Welcome. Not sure what to make of this. No other signs that his vision is off.?

With Smokey I've noticed he misses when he is too close to the couch don't know if others have seen the same thing or not...

Boo alway used to jump too soon and would smack into the bottom of the couch instead of on the seat. She's now almost 8 months and judges it correctly MOST of the time now.

I have sateen sheets and a sateen comforter cover. smooth. my little guy (1/2 shih tzu, 1/2 hav) he makes it about 70% of the time. he doesn't miss by much but he has nothing to grab on to, so he slides off. it's funny to me. there's a doggie bed on the floor so he doesn't smack the floor.

My Yogi use to misjudge distance a lot he was a rescue and at one I took him to an eye doctor his eyes are fine, they think maybe he was confinded to a crate as a puppy for long hours and this is a common problem these days, yes with more experience and exposure he has mostly out grown it.

What kind of surface is he jumping from? If you have wood or tile flooring, perhaps he isn't able to get solid footing on the floor? And then I wonder if animals are like people - some are just more coordinated and athletic than others. With my two, there is a difference in the way they jump. Augie is very graceful and effortless, like a dancer - it appears that he just floats upward from the floor. I wish I could capture it, but I am the worst photographer ever. Finn appears very powerful and athletic. My guys have carpeting to launch from and I am sure it provides very good traction. I have to watch Finn like a hawk as I don't want him jumping off things yet.

Shadow is just a year and he was bought from a breeder and we've had him since 8 weeks. He seems to be fine otherwise. He did have some dry eye as a pup that hasn't returned. Just curious as I haven't had a pup in years and this is my first Havanese. They sure have a tendency to bark from everyone I've talked to.We love him. Hes quite shy around people and takes a while to warm up.
