The Grand Canyon + Havs??

Sooooooo, we are headed to the Grand Canyon for our family vacation next year!! My question is, has anyone ever done the Grand Canyon with thier hav in tow?? If so, can you give me pointers and ideas!!?

If not, then is there anywhere on the West Coast that is SUPER dog friendly and fun for a future family vacation??

We are planning a Grand Canyon trip next month. We are retired so we're not looking for kid-friendly places, just dog-friendly hotels and that isn't easy. I contribute and do research on TripAdvisor.com which gives me some great information. Red Feather Inn in the actual Grand Canyon area allows dogs but we are going to Flagstaff and drive the area.

What I've found with hotels is that is that in some cases, they charge so much extra for a dog and they don't allow dogs to remain alone in the hotel room (which would keep a family from hiking the hills). My advice would be to find a condo for rent where the dogs would be safe to be left alone.

I think Jim (Snicker's Dad) found out that dogs are not welcome in National Parks.

I did not see any dogs in the park when we were there. I do not think it would be too safe.

How far north do you want to travel? I absolutely LOVE Cannon Beach, OR. But it can be pretty spendy from about mid-June until mid September or so. We go before mid June and around the end of Sept, when the prices are a bit better and it is not so crowded. It can get pretty crowded during the summer. Oops, but you have small children. Probably not a good time for you. But I did hear comments about how accepting it was of dogs, and even though we didn't have Augie with us our last visit, I did notice many dogs there. As someone else mentioned, I would also suggest renting a condo or a house. Are you looking for a quiet place or somewhere with lots of people. We have stayed in Neskowin, further south; it is very restful and quiet. Very small place. But it isn't too far to go to Lincoln City, OR for the day from there.

Cannon Beach isn't far from Seaside which might be fun for kids. For me, it has a bit too much of a carnival type atmosphere. We used to go there once in awhile when the kids were young. There are arcades and such. But they have built it up so much with gargantuan buildings on the beach - ruined it for me.

Whidbey Island, (in the Puget Sound, near the San Juan Islands,) is a beautiful place!! It's got beautiful scenery, (how old are your kids?) WWI and WWII forts to investigate, (Fort Casey especially fun), and a lighthouse (Admiralty Head). Ferries to the San Juan's from nearby Anacortes on Fidalgo Island, whale watching, kayaking, beach walking, did I mention gorgeous scenery? Deception Pass...

Whidbey is near Seattle; if you drive to it it's a two hour drive. If you take a ferry out of Seattle/Mukilteo it's about 20 minutes on the ferry and then an hour drive from the south end of the island to the north.
