We had our first huge snow storm of the season Wednesday night and Thursday. I think about a foot of snow but it's hard to tell exact amount because of the blowing and drifting. Anyhow, there's a ton of snow out there.
I bought Brody Mutt Luks boots because I was concerned about the really cold temperatures we can get. Yesterday it was about -18C and today it's supposed to get down to -21C. I forgot to bring his boots with me yesterday when I came to work (and he got carried to the car because the snow was well above his head). I spent at least 2 hours outside yesterday trying to get him to go to the bathroom - we'd go out every hour. I felt bad because until he went I couldn't let him out of his pen. (at home he uses the Ugodog but at work he needs to go outside) He finally went around 3:30 PM! I could tell he really wasn't happy in the snow, he was constantly lifting his paws up and not wanting to move out there (even though one of the guys shoveled a path for him, but with the wind and drift the snow kept coming back).
Today, I remembered to bring in the boots. We tried one unsuccessful potty run. Then I put on his boots. I've only tried them on at home a couple of times and they didn't stay on long. I put them on and let him run around the shop a bit to get used to them. 2 fell off when he tried to run in them. I put them back on again and then took him outside to potty.
He did walk funny in them once he deigned to actually move, but he got better with practice.
I could immediately see how much happier he was outside with the boots on his little feet. He was sniffing and exploring and tromping through the snow and went potty pretty quickly!
His Hurrta winter coat hasn't gotten here yet, but then he'll be set.
I'm sure I'll get better at putting them on as I do it more, but even so I have to say they were a definite success and I'm glad we got them. I had felt a bit silly for spending $40 on boots, but now I'm really glad I did.
