Odd behavior problem

Daisy has a problem and I am wondering if she is the only Havanese that has this behavior. When she gets excited or someone comes to the door she has a high pitch sound that hurts your ears. She gets so excited that she can't bark and this high pitch sounds come out of her. Anyone else have this problem

Is this normal? Any suggestions on how to stop this?

I don't know if this is the same thing -- when Baxter is very happy, he has a sort of squeal -- reminds me of a guinea pig. I have assumed there is nothing wrong with it. It's pretty cute, actually.

Kodi has a whiney squeaky noise he makes (while spinning in little circles) in front of someone he really likes. He doesn't do it for just anyone, though... Only for he FAVORITE people!

Too cute Karen. I have liked this article . I used it initially to teach Molly shush . http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/woofshush

hmmmm... Tillie has what I would call a "cry" but she only does it when she is SCARED or threaten and it is VERY high pitched and whiney sounding... I've only heard her do it if she is stressed out or something... not sure how or if something like this can be trained out of them??

Kipper has started doing thus within the past week, also when he is excited or really wants me to get up. I thought it was cute until he did it this past weekend at 3am (time I normally get up for work but didn't gave to because it was the weekend)

I think any number of high squeaks are normal for dogs. It seems like some dogs have more vocal range than others. I read about Kodi "spinning". My pup will literally bite onto her own tail and spin in circles while holding her tail in her mouth when she is excited. Its pretty hilarious and cute, but I have been discouraging her from it because it looks like something that could get a bit obsessive. Is spinning a little dog trait? I laughed when I finally figured out what an RLH was. I had been witnessing it for days before I knew it had an official forum name : )

Wendy does something similar when I say "let's go out". I just think she is so excited because she knows it isn't wet outside and all will go out with her.

Yeah, I would definitely discourage the tail chasing... that can definitely become an obsession in some dogs, and not only little ones!

What Kodi does is different, because he has his head up, looking at the person while he spins. It's like he's trying to get his WHOLE body closer to you and can't figure out how to do it!

Mine have more of a bark or a soft EMM EMM sound. Zoey will do the circle thing when she is excited but will only go around once. I would love to have her do that for the judge
