Well, Kodi and I certainly had an "experience" today! Since we had to miss our local Hav play date this fall, I was feeling bad for Kodi that he hadn't had any chance to run around with a group of little dogs. So when I heard about a local small dog meet-up group, I decided to give it a try. It met in a rubber matted room at our local "pet resort".
I'll tell you, I don't want to HEAR about Havs being hard to potty train. There were dogs peeing and pooping all over the place!!! It was disgusting! And their owners were so matter of fact about cleaning it up that it was pretty obvious that this is just a fact of life.
Most of the dogs were Chihuahuas or Chi crosses with a couple of Pom crosses, a rat terrier and two Min Pins thrown in for good measure. There was also an unneutered Yorkie who spent the entire time trying to mount everything in the room.
I don't know if they just play differently than Havs or what. Kodi has always LOVED Havanese play dates, happily joining in with the others. I didn't see any aggression in this group... in fact they mostly wandered around ignoring each other and looking for places to pee and poop.
But Kodi was very uncomfortable. He was drooling like crazy, and kept climbing up into my lap, even though the other dogs didn't seem to be paying any attention to him at all.
All in all, it wasn't a rousing success. I think we'll wait for Hav play dates!
