YAY! Vacation! I hope you have fun.

I just got back a few weeks ago from vacation to Ohio and Michigan with my family and Gucci. The only problem I had, was that her tear/eye staining came back from most likely, drinking different water

Are you flying or driving?

The stroller I bought made travelling with her MUCH easier, especially at the airport and at Cedar Point. I wrote about it on the thread "Crazy Dog Lady" lol

Here's what I packed for Gucci:

Food (in ziploc bags)
Treats (mainly chicken, beef and rabbit jerky)
Her blanket
A few favorite toys
Brushes and combs
Travel size baby wipes
Travel size paper towels
Travel size baby shampoo
Harnesses and leashes
Potty pads (for the hotel at night)
Carry on Sherpa bag
Stroller
ADD: Plastic bowls

Hmm..I think that's about it. If I had to do it over again, I would've bought her bottled water!

I think it important to keep up the brushing, because when we were travelling, she was in her harness alot more and prone to mat But she really had a great time, and I am SO glad we opted to take her. However, when we got home, she was SOOO Happy to be home, she did the run like hell and happy jumps all over the house! LOL

Tell us more about your trip! Did you find dog friendly hotels? Or are you w/ family?

hugs,
Kara

Since you are going to the beach, I would highly suggest packing shampoo and conditioner! I took the baby kind, because is was small and travelled better and I didnt' see travel shampoos for dogs at Petsmart

Because, chances are...she is going to need a bath.

And maybe some spray on sunscreen?

I live at the beach, and our vet recommends sunscreen. They make it for dogs, but it is the same stuff.

We took Nico on a camping vacation last month. The one item I was happiest to have with us was his crate. It gave him a place to hang out and his sleeping arrangements weren't changed (since he sleeps in his crate at home). I also took his ex pen, many of his toys, his food, his treats, his grooming supplies (heck, I took about everything we have for him). It was easy for us, because we could just pack it in the camper. In retrospect, if we had taken just his crate, his food, some treats, his leash, his food bowls, his brush and one or two toys, we would have been fine.

Wow!!! You all pack A LOT!!

We just packed food, treats, chewy bone, bowl, a bed for the grass, his lead and a comb. LOL. We only went for the weekend camping though.

He doesn't do pee pads anymore [he just likes to shred them! LOL] or his crate [he poops in it! talk about a mess!]

Meg, since you'll be gone a week I would add shampoo and a couple toys and crate or gates if you go out without her.

Make sure the beach allows dogs.

Have a great time!

we just got back from vacation with the boys. they had more "luggage" than us.

I think Kara's list looks thorough-- shampoo is a great idea, and if there is any swimming going on you may want a life vest. I think if you are not flying and Jillee uses a crate, it's a good idea to bring it.

Kara, after looking at your list I had another thought about Gucci's eye stains--
"Plastic bowls" My vet told me that plastic and stainless can cause the eye stains. were using the plastic just on vacation? do you use pottery bowls at home?

Also did you introduce the rabbit jerky on vacation? could be a rabbit allergy?

Hmm..

I hadnt' heard that about the plastic bowls. No, I just use them on vacation. She has stainless steel and a set of ceramic ones here at home. Interesting.

I looked at the collapsing bowls, but I honestly did not think she would use them. They looked like something she would flip her nose up at! lol

But, she didn't eat much on vacation She mostly sustained on her jerky treats.

I missed that the first time!

Actually, the rabbit jerky came in last week, so I didn't even have any on vacation, so that was kind of a typo/suggestion for non spoiling treats (assuming that all havs are as picky as mine!). lol Her eye tears have stopped the last few days, So I will keep an eye on the rabbit. The guy I buy it from, sells it as "single ingredient jerky". I hope she's not allergic to it, she loves the stuff.

It just wasnt' practical to try to lug around cheddar cheese and mozzarella! lol
