Winter coat/help please!

Hi everyone. I have really got to order a winter coat for Flynn! He's our first pup.. he's a little over 6 months.

I'd like a good one, but it doesn't have to be top of the line. Functional, not too hard to get on/off (i am clueless though.. maybe they are all the same in that regard). We are in NJ, so we def. get snow and cold (though I'm trying to pretend winter's not coming/here).

What do folks recommend? And is this something I am likely to have to order online vs. finding in a store?

I did a search but started feeling confused almost immediately.

Thank you so much!

You can buy one at one of your local pet stores. That way, if you take Flynn with you, you can hold the coat up against him and see if the size seems right. Alternatively you can buy online. Not sure if you saw the other thread about the beautiful sweaters and coats, but they are indeed beautiful.

Hi , Ive been spending the last two weeks researching coats. I want to try to make some. When maddie and Zoey were your pups age I bought some used ones from Linda on this forum. They were a bit big so they still fit. Although the are wool and not great for rain. I used sweat shirts a lot just for days that were cold but not to wet. I bought another one that is swede with fake lambs wool Its warm but still not waterproof at wilco a farming store. One coat that I just found along with others is called Obtrack it has a longer back like folks are wanting it also has one with built in legs. They are about $79 and your pup is still growing! I just spent the whole day trying to build in legs into one I'm designing it is very hard to do and Zoeys long hair is hard to stuff in the legs. I wish I was a bit father ahead in my designing so I could show you one of mine before winter is over.

Here are a couple threads I started on winter coats and sweater:
Royal fifi makes custom dog coats and sweaters. You can not beat the quality or price. Just mention the forum and she will normally work on the price. The fit will be exact. If you order a coat, I suggest you add 1/2 inch to the chest area for a tiny bit on room.

Hurtta are the North face of dog coats. They are my favorite in high tech coats. They are warm, wind & water proof.

You can get them from the website I posted or

The Obtrack is nice, but it is not as warm as the Hurtta. It is more a shell.

One more thread for Royal fifi

Good luck!

I recommend getting your first one some place local. It was nice being able to try on different things on Eva before committing. Now that I'm comfortable knowing her size I order online usually.

I'm a cutie and I know it!

I ordered the Hurrta Winter Coat and it's really very nice and well made and is very easy to put on and take off (once I figured out how to do it!). It swims on Brody, but I figure it gives him room to fill out some. My only real annoyance with the actual coat is that there isn't a place to attach a leash to it so I'm forced to put a regular neck collar on him (because he needs to be leashed when we go out). Brody loves it, but he likes his boots too.
