Do dogs sense our sickness?

I woke up today feeling miserable. I am nauseated and have a headache. My body aches and I stayed in bed til noon and have been on the couch since. Lizzie laid in bed with me and then on the back of the couch. My concern is that she has not eaten. She did vomit bile this am and again in the afternoon. This is not unusual and I keep a journal to report to her homeopathic vet. She did get a remedy last week and I sensed from the vet that she may show some symptoms. Since I started home cooking for her she has never missed a meal for me. She did miss a couple at the dog sitters. She did lap up her fish oil, but both breakfast and dinner are still in the bowls. Now, I have not eaten either, but I am not 10 pounds. Sometimes I wonder if they are sympathetic to our feelings.

Okay, the little stinker just ate both bowls of food! I worry about her for nothing!

Hunger won over sympathy.

I hope you are feeling better too.

Aww..I'm sorry you two are under the weather.I'm sure they know when we aren't feeling well. Whimsy knows when something is up with me and our regular routine goes out the window. She will stick with me like glue even more then she normally does. They are so darn loyal. I think animals in general are very sensitive to human emotions and illness.
Dogs with sensitive tummys tend to vomit bile when they are empty as you well know. Whimsy is that way. I hope you are both feeling better tomorrow and back to eating. Not a fun way to bring in the New Year.

Too funny Lynne,. Yeah they definitely can sense when something's wrong with us. And that will cause them not to eat. They're much like us in a lot of ways. Hope you're feeling better. At least now , you only have to worry about yourself.

I do think they sense it. I know when I am sick, she will lay in bed with me and not bug me for water or treats or even to go out and pee on her normal schedule, its like she won't bother me and waits for my DH to come home to bug him! lol, I mean, if she really has to go then she will, but she surely sacrifices when she knows I'm too sick to get out of bed

I am feeling better only because I took Excedrin as the headache was getting worse from no food. I had a fever of 101. Not sure where I caught this from. Lizzie is still sitting behind me on the couch.

So sorry to hear you are under the weather, I, too, have had a sickness and it sounds like yours but my temp has been 103 this is not unusual for me as I have had many third would illnesses and people like me run much higher temps normally, but the headache is bad it mine does not go away by Tues it will be seven days and I will see a doctor, I think it may be a flu but my sinus is bad. My guys stay in bed with me and I swear if not made to go out their bladder's would pop! I do believe they are atuned to their people.
