Feeling like a bad owner

Took Baxter in for grooming this morning. I put his special blanket and lovie in his crate and a kong with peanut butter, not realizing they would just take him out of the crate. He was so nervous, he pooped on the floor while the groomer was holding him!

They were super, super nice and calm, and I am not worried he will be mistreated. But, as much as he hates it when I groom him, and as nervous as he can be around folks he doesn't know, I just feel so bad for leaving him.

I can't believe how ridiculously attached I've become to my puppies.

I hear you but as long as you find a groomer that really cares for Baxter, he's in good hands.

Hopefully with enough grooming and handling Baxter will learn to accept and maybe like grooming.

The thing I like about my groomer is that I can watch through a window and most of the time, when it's not crazy busy, they'll do mine (I never bring more than one at a time) while I wait. Know that they're being gentle with him has to help. When can you pick him up?

Not until 3:30 or 4. I was thinking of having dh do it, but I'll probably just take off work early. . .

I'm sure it will be fine. I'll be waiting to hear more.

I use the groomer at the doggy day care. He gets to play with the other dogs while he's waiting for his turn and doesn't have time to get nervous. When he is finished, the groomer calls me and I try to pick him up fast -- so he doesn't get a chance to get all messed up playing with the other dogs again!

The 1st time he was groomed, when the groomer called to tell me he was done, I asked if Beau had been a good boy. She said he was the best behaved Havanese she had ever seen. Of course, I asked if she was sure that she was referring to Beau. I have to chase him down to get him to let me brush or comb him at home!!

He still can't wait to go to day care, even though it may or may not include grooming. [Sometimes, I wonder if I'm being mean by not letting him go more often -- but I miss him if he's not at home with me!!]
I suppose that means he's not stressed out by the whole routine. (At least I hope it means that).
