Travel expen

Hello All! I am about to embark on Hav ownership and am very grateful for the knowledge on this forum. I would like to buy an expen I can travel (by plane) with. I see there are some canvas/nylon pop-up ones, but I worry they may not be sturdy enough or are chewable. I hope whatever expen I buy, I can use it as her regular everyday pen as well. Anyone with experience? Thank you!

Kendra

Sorry! No experience. I just wanted to say good luck and I hope you are able to find what you need. Perhaps you can post a link to the kind you are looking at?

link to travel expen

Hi Alanna, thanks, good idea. Below is a link to an example of what I'm looking at. The major problem I see is that it is not quite 2 feet high - but it does have a zip-on mesh cover. I'm not sure how convenient this would be to use, if the mesh would be too flimsy, or tear with sharp claws, etc. I don't plan to buy one of these until I know my puppy fairly well (whether she is a jumper, chewer, etc.), but I'm curious as to whether anyone else has used one of these when traveling or just for regular use.

Thanks!

I have one similar to that and my crew loves it. We use it regularly. I zip the older 2 in it when we leave the house. The majority of the time the side zippered doors are left open and they all take turns sleeping or playing in there. The youngins love dragging all their toys in there with them so a bonus benefit it helps keep the toy clutter to a minimum.

One of the girls got locked in the playpen the other day when my 2 year old nephew decided to zip her in and didn't notice till later that she was actually stuck in there. Didn't seem to bother her too much.

My dog wouldn't stand for being in a pen alone. But I couldn't travel without my STROLLER love that thing. I roll her around airports in it and I hang her travel bag on the back of it, when we load the plane, I put her in the bag, gate check the stroller, and it is waiting for us when we arrive. As far as hotels, she just sleeps in the bed with me and if we have to go anywhere, I zip her up in the stroller, put her bear and blanket in there and she is pretty content. Or I'll put the blanket over the stroller and let people think its a baby :P ...well, it IS a baby, a fur baby!!

Thanks Renee and Kara. Great to hear two different experiences. Lol, the stroller sounds so cute, with people getting a surprise when they peek in at your baby! I guess I have to wait and see what my pup will be like. The good news is I've found one and fingers crossed she'll be home in a week or so!

YAY congratulations on finding a baby!!!!! can't wait to hear more about her!!

and I totally agree with kara ... I broke down and got a stroller when my pup was a year old and don't know how I lived so long without it! Although I DO feel like a crazy dog lady when I use it, but oh well! LOL

Some people do want to peek, but most people are in their own worlds or too busy being out of their element to notice I think it helps give them a feeling of safety, too and you aren't straining your back carrying them around, 10 lbs can get really quite heavy, quickly. Especially if you have a back pack with a laptop, and every other thing under the sun on the other shoulder

I'm not trying to talk you out of the pen, but I can't imagine traveling without her stroller. Just the fear of her getting stepped on in crowded places, I use it more than I ever thought I would when I bought it.

Can't wait to see your pup!!
Post pictures??

Kara

Heres a picture of my stinker in her stroller and then one in her bag on the plane last weekend (we went to Michigan for a funeral) I cheated and put her on the seat next to me since it was a fairly empty flight, we had our own row)
