Normally cleans, sometimes accident on the bed?

Hi there

Max is 99% housebroken - we have our routine and he is very good. He sleeps in our bed and we have steps so he can go up and down...normally if he is sick or not well he knows to go down the steps and then go to door if needed.

Which is why I don't understand that sometimes for no apparent reason he 'pees' on the bed ? I thought if he slept there he would be disinclined to do this but seeing other people's comments on the forum I guess I may not be the only one this happens to.

Any suggestions or thoughts - it is the only time he is not 'clean' and the only place he is bad....

Thanks

Jemma

Roki does the same thing and I think that it is some kind of protest. I did all potty training procedures and he is 98 percent trained but accidents do happen - regularly! On average twice a month on my bed (not other family members' beds) and two or three times in the kitchen. I haven't seen poop accident since he was three months old. He goes out regularly four times a day and does his business. I also put pee pad on balcony and he goes there before we go to sleep.
I punished him once when he peed on the bed right in front of my eyes. The result was deprerssed dog not wanting to eat for three days. So most of the time I keep my bedroom door closed. I would really like to know what peeing on bed means?

I like this article on this http://books.google.ca/books?id=gro...e occasionally just goes in the house&f=false
Excellent book by the way. Second best dog book ever JMO It worked for me , Molly is 7 in a few weeks. One accident at six months. And that really wasn't an accident. We left her for six hours when she hadn't done her poop. You have to give them the opportunity frequently until they get it. And then there still can be accidents. Molly has slept with us from eight weeks old and never gone on the bed. Thank God.

Kodi once peed on our bed, but I think I know why. He doesn't usually sleep with us, he sleeps in his crate and ex-pen down stairs, where he has a litter box available at all times. But I often let him snuggle in bed while I read in the evening before I take him down to his bed.

Our bed is very high, and he can't get up on it by himself, though he can jump off it. This one time, my DH was away over night, and I fell asleep with Kodi on the bed. sometime during the night, he peed on the corner of the bed, as far away from me as he could get. I think he was afraid that if he got off the bed, he couldn't get back up, and he didn't know what to do when he couldn't get to his litter box.

If we were going to have him sleep with us regularly, I'd make sure he had a set of steps to get on and off the bed, and a litter box in the room that he could get to easily.

Other than that, we have no problems with him in the house, but he does have two litter boxes available at all times, one in his ex-pen in the family room (which is open during the day) and one in the kitchen. Even so, he'd really rather go outside if he has the option, and HATES having to poop in the house.

Our bed is also very high and he has steps - like I said sometimes in the night if he is sick he goes down the steps and goes to the door...which is why I don't understand the couple of times he pees right on the edge....

He does sometimes have toys on the bed and has one of those 'mad half hour's so maybe he gets all excited and can't control ???

Petunia is three years and has been sleeping in our bed since she was a little puppy. Never has she peed in the bed. She uses the pee-pad or goes outside since she is bell trained.
I do however sometimes notice a wet spot on our bed that could be mistaken for pee-pee. She sometimes licks her paws and that causes a wet spot. The first few times we saw the wet spot we assumed it was a pee-pee accident, but then realized it was from her licking. Are you sure it's not from licking?

No it was definitely pee - I don't know why I am so fixated on this as he has only done it a couple of times - it is just so unlike him - I am thinking he may be mad because if I remember it happened when I had to leave and normally he is in the living room but in these instances he had the run of the house and the steps were still by the bed ???
