Yes, the breeder did not remove them and I couldn't think of a reason to do so.

Yes, and I'm glad. They are very important for traction on tight turns for an agility dog.

Tillie has hers, I agree they help tremendously with fast, quick movements and helps her hold onto things! LOL

I just realized last night that Bumi doesn't have them. Don't know if they were removed or he was just born without them.

Piper has hers too. I think some breeders have them removed and some do not. There is some debate as to whether they serve a purpose or not.

I remember seeing a video (I think on this forum) where they slowed down a running dogs motion and showed that they do actually use the dew claw when turning.

You can check with the breeder, but if they are all missing, my guess is that they were removed at birth, when it's not a big deal at all. Some breeders do this routinely. As long as Bumi isn't slated for the agility ring, it won't hamper him in any way.

(In fact, if you asked Kodi, I'd bet he'd tell you that he'd WAY rather not have to have his dew claws trimmed on a regular basis... But then he's a baby about his nails in general!)

Cey's dew claws were removed by laser by his breeder. Cey doesn't do agility so as Karen pointed out, I for one am glad for not having to trim the extra nails

Buffy has dew claws on all 4 legs, and Buster has none.

The only problem we have had to deal with is hen Buffy caught one of the front dew claws on something when she and Buster were playing with each other inside, and it hurt her and was bleeding. My husband wrapped the area with coban bandage, and I brought her to the vet the next morning. The vet trimmed the dew claw, applied antibiotic, and wrapped it in coban again. It was fine the next week when the coban was removed. We have no idea what she caught it on as we have bamboo flooring, not carpet.
