My Hav, the Athlete

Last night we left the dogs alone for about 1 1/2 hours with a couple Charlie Bears on the counter. They happened to be right next to the cell phone chargers, which were plugged in, but had no phones attached. We came home to find both chargers on the floor with one of them chewed almost beyond recognition. So obvious one of my dogs (and obviously Brutus) jumped high enough to get them off the counter. There were no chairs around to help with the process. This from a dog who does not jump onto or off of furniture.

Tell me about your Hav's most athletic stunts!

Firs Off what the heck is a Charlie Bear? Well Radar one day leapt right off the couch and was practically vertical in the air My Wife said. I had went into the bedroom and Radar wanted to see me so he jumped from the couch which is a good two and a half feet...I'm not sure of that's good or not.

Ummmmm....Cheryl.....before you are quick to blame Brutus.....maybe I should let you in on a little secret.....Roxie's mom can jump a 30 inch x-pen...BUT... Roxie's half sister Havana can clear a 36 inch x-pen!!! So it may be in Roxie's blood to be a super jumper!
Heheheheheh (or maybe not!) LOL~

Paws.....and reflect on what life has given you~

How the heck would yout contain a little bouncer like that? You would have to put a hard top on the ex-pen to keep them" that's pretty high....impressive.

I haven't seen Roxie make any of those kind of leaps yet, but she is brave enough to jump off of furniture, especially if she can land right on Brutus.
She shows her athleticism by "dancing"--she can stand several minutes on both back legs.

Kahlua can jump from a sit straight onto the computer table. She landed on the scanner last time she tried and slipped right off again, so she hasn't tried it in a while. She is super springy - and on the large side for a Hav (around 6 Kilos), so that could be why.

Well Dora would not do any of that for a Charlie Bear.... she just doesn't like those at all!

But Dora really hates to be pinned up and cratted. She is a mommy's girl thru and thru. When she was about 6 months. We opened up her area and put her in the xpen while we went some where and we came home and she was running around. I didn't know how she got out and was suprised. We did it the next day and we just walked down the street for ice cream and she was running around the house happy to see us. Then we put her in the xpen and stood outside and looked in the window. That little girl was jumping up and pulling herself up and over! That is when I pretty much stopped using the xpen!

Then I started bringing both the girls to the training club. When you are in agility, you have to put your dog in a crate and help set up. Well my friends are pranksters and so when my girls came zooming across the building I thought for sure someone thought it would be funny to let them out. I clipped the side zipper of the soft side cause I know my little girl. I walk over and sure enough, the top was open. I put them away and once again. This time I was getting mad so I yelled at my friend Kathy to stop it! Well 2 mins later she yells at me to watch.... There is Dora bouncing up the soft sided crate with her nose and teeth opening the zipper. In 2 mins, she jumps out of it and runs to me and the maltese follows! Just to let you know, she isn't in the small soft sided crate either.... she has the 20 inch! Lets just say a lot of work with a water gun has kept her in the soft sided but if I make a movement to let her out of the crate, she helps open it!

I understand completely, Havanese are amazing. This is my first Havanese and the only dog I would never leave alone in my house. Smarty is on, in and around anything in my house. If we move the chairs she jumps wherever she wants to be. Like I mentioned in a previous thread "she is like a cat". Goes anywhere, does anything she wants and when you scold her she just looks like "OK, Iíll find something else to do" and happily goes on her way to the next thing.

Last week she chewed & broke my new $500 reamless, transition, glareless glasses, but left the $10 sunglasses next to them. Thank goodness I still have my old pair as contract do not do well all the time for me.

It is fun reading these stories about special talents! An escape artist? Glasses eater? (Gucci also destroyed a pair of my husband's glasses, but fortunately it was an older pair that he uses at night!)

We haven't had any issues with jumping on tables.....yet. Nor can she escape her Sherpa Bag. We don't use a crate, so I don't know if she could get out of that or not.

We only used the xpen for a few months. She's actually really trustworthy in the house so far. Occasionally, she'll entertain herself with toilet paper though! So I close the bathroom doors.

Hmmm, Nico is clearly not going to earn a letter jacket. Except maybe in track . . . He's a speedy little devil, especially when in possession of something he's not supposed to have, but so far not much of a jumper. I guess I should be grateful for that. He can't even jump onto a couch or a chair, and he won't jump off - he waits for someone to place him on the floor. His big accomplishment of the week is a newfound ability to go up the 16 steps between the first and second floor, although luckily he'll only do it if you tell him to. He's just 19 weeks old, so I guess I shouldn't celebrate his lack of the jumping gene quite yet.
