Heads Up and On the Calendar

The 2012 Westminster Kennel Club show is on next Monday and Tuesday, the 13th and 14th.

Since only the group judging and BIS is shown, the Westminster KC website is really neat. About an hour after the Havanese (or any breed) show, you can go in and play the video of the judging.

Dave, I read where it will be broadcast live in Canada--is that new?

In the U.S, I think the broadcast is split between USA Network and CNBC.

I'm a really easy sell for watching beautiful dogs, so hope you all enjoy.

I am really hoping that they will still do this. For the past few years we have seen the Havs show in the arena. Tons of seating, easy ability to go into benching, and we always go on the floor and stand right outside the ring to see the Havs show close up. Apparently this year they have moved some of the breeds, the Havanese included, into the Theater portion of Madison Square Garden. This means we most likely will not be able to walk onto the floor and watch from the outside of the ring (which has always been fantastic) and not sure if we will get to see the Havanese benched.
It will be interesting to see how the change of area goes.

Laurief,

Wonderful that you can actually go to the show. I heard about the changes so I don't know what that will mean for ringside watching, but at least the videos, I think, will be available.

Benched is that all the dogs, no matter what time they will be in the show ring, have to be benched. There is a specific area set up where the dogs have to stay all day. This is where everyone can usually go and see all the dogs. Benching is mandatory at Westminster.

Perfectly good question, Stan. Benched means that the dogs are required to be at their appointed 'bench' during the show when they are not in the ring or on potty break, etc.
This is so people can walk around and see individual dogs.

Right you are, Dave. I didn't know they would also broadcast on Animal Planet. The broadcasts on USA and CNBC are also live of course. USA and CNBC split the airing on Monday and on Tuesday it's all USA Network.

I got a kick out of looking at the Las Vegas odds on the show. The big money is on the Pekingese, Malachy. His biggest foe is Banana Joe, the Affenpinscher, shown by Ernesto Lara. I met him once and he's a prince so I hope he wins. The Havanese, as a relatively new breed to AKC, have little chance in the group.

My mom and her bff took the train down today. Mom has always wanted to go. She is a fan of the Herding Group. Little dogs (under 40 lbs) baffle her. Her bff just got a Corgi puppy so Mom is suffering from IWAP syndrome.

TTFN,
Pam
