Puppy Mill Story

I was sitting next to this guy on the plane and we were talking about puppies. He currently has a mini pinscher and get this... 5 long haired daschund puppies. He was saying that they are all from different breeders. As I inquired more, it turns out that a friend of his owns a pet store and he got them from him. He was all boasting how his friend can get any type of dog you want (as is this guy has great connections). I asked him about puppy mills and he insured me that these dogs weren't from puppy mills and his friend would never sell puppy mill dogs.

Here's where it gets worse. He is planning on breeding these dogs. Oh, they are purebred dogs with papers and everything!

I wish there was something I could have done to make sure he doesn't breed them, poor things.

Only Puppy Mills would unethically sell their dogs to Pet Stores. My Kennel Club forbids it's members/breeders to sell to Pet Stores and I'd imagine most have similar ethical codes. The man was a baffoon and I congratulate you for holding your tongue as he'd most definitely gotten an ear full from me before I requested a seat reassignment. wow . . .just wow . . .

I live in NC right next to fort bragg, this is the land of BYB and more then a few puppy mills the people change but the story is the same, one of the sad out comes is we are also the land of the disposable dog our shelters are so full. Some people think of breeding as an income not to perserve or better the breed. Sometimes you just have to leave it alone and pick your battle, raising awareness in your own social circle and with your extended family by setting a good example can make a big difference.

Robbie, Boo Boo, Yogi, and Misty's human.

I would have AT LEAST, spilled my drink on him

B++tard! I wonder how would he liked to be locked in a cage being used for breeding.
