Everything with the house came through alright and we moved in officially this past Saturday!! YAY! Olive and Diego just absolutely LOOOOOOOOVE their new home and their yard!! (And let me tell you, we absolutely love just walking out the front door with the dogs with no worries! Greatest. Feeling. EVER!). :-)
So after we finished moving everything in to the new house, we and our friends just decided to take a minute to relax...that minute became six hours, but oh well. While we were relaxing, our friend had noticed Diego chewing on something and got it out of his mouth for us. It was a piece of plastic-something-or-other that he chewed up into small pieces. He seemed to be acting normal with no pain, tried jumping into everyones lap while they were sitting and licking their faces and what not. Not too concerned that he swallowed anything.
So about 2 hours later, Diego started coughing. Not much...sounded like he just had a hairball and was trying to yack it up. The next cough was a little while later and I felt bad cause he just couldn't get rid of the frog in his throat. Then paranoia set in. I started to calmly panic that he may have had a piece of the plastic thing he chewed stuck in his throat! But he was still breathing, running, eating, drinking no problem. Just coughing.
Yesterday morning, his coughing was so bad, it sounded like he was a smoker who smoked 20 packs in one day and was hacking up his lungs. And about 8 out of 10 times, he'd throw up (or spit up cause it was mostly clear, spit type liquid). He didn't eat any of his food in the morning and didn't want to drink. His personality was still normal, still just a happy-go-lucky pup wanting to relax for a minute then run for the next.
We decided that he needed to go to the vet so Jimmy took him while I stayed home to do things around the house and hang out with Olive.
Jimmy calls me to tell me the vet said he didn't have anything stuck in his throat, but that he had kennel cough.
So now he's on antibiotics and hydro-whatever to ease the coughing. I feel awful. And he wasn't even boarded or anything like that!! So I think the only way he could've gotten it was from a dog at the dog park :-(
BUT, this morning when I woke up to go to work and to take him out for a morning pee (can I just say that waking up and walking out the front door with the dog with no worries is the greatest feeling ever? Oh, did I already say that? Well. GREATEST. FEELING. EVER!) he gave only one little cough, and then we went back in and I let him back into the bedroom to sleep for another hour or so and he only coughed a couple of times on the way in.
I also texted Jimmy this morning to see how the Nugget was doing and he said he definitely wasn't coughing as much as he was yesterday (yay!) but he wouldn't eat his breakfast (boo!) so he gave him a bunch of cookies (yay? boo?) to have something in his stomach to take his meds.
We definitely need to go grocery shopping (haven't done that yet) so we can cook him a bland diet for the next couple of days (and to feed ourselves too)...but I'm just glad he isn't coughing as much!
Well, I hope everyone's weekends went well! I'll try to post some pics of the pups in their new yard sometime soon...just need to find my camera this time around...
