Rat poison

My sweet little Ellie is at the emergency vet right now. This afternoon we were visiting family about two hours away when Ellie got into some rat poison. We have a well known vet school in our town so I drive back home and immediately took her to the emergency vet. They wanted me to leave her for a few hours so they could give her charcoal and start her on vitamin K. I'll pick her up at midnight and then she will be on vitamin k supplements for 4 weeks. From what I understand you might not notice any symptoms at first because the poison causes them to bleed internally. The poison affects the clotting factor in their blood. I just wanted to reiterate how important it is to take your baby to the vet ASAP if you know that they have ingested any kind of poison even if they aren't exhibiting any symptoms. By the time they start showing symptoms the poison has already started doing severe damage. The vet sounded very certain that she would be fine because we caught it early. Say a little prayer that my Sweet little Ellie will be ok.

Wow, that is scary. I sure hope Ellie will be okay.

Thanks for the tip about not showing symptoms right away.

Wow, that is super scary. How did you know that she ate it, and to take her to the vet?

I'm sure she will recover just fine, but I will be thinking of her just the same until I hear that she has for sure recovered...

This happened to one of my trainers dogs during a visit to the inlaws over the holidays, her dogs recovered well. Our cat who was an in door cat died at the beginning of winter after eating a mouse that had been poisoned. Every winter the mice try to come in through the basement and our cat would delight in catching and tormenting them always at night, so we heard her crashing around but that was not unusual, in the morning we found her, we sent her for an autopsy, it was rat poison the new fast acting kind.

Hope your pup recovers and is none the worse, I know this is very up setting for you but your fast acting saved the day. Thinking of you and Ellie. Hugs

Wishing a full recovery for Ellie. Good for you for getting onto this fast! I HATE rat poison, and won't have it around anywhere, but some of my neighbors use it.

I'll be watching for your reports; please keep them coming when you can!
