Louis & Leroy
An update on Louis. I adopted him from a breeder who was looking to rehome him. BTW, his name is pronounced "la-wee" like the French way. My husband likes it that way lol. Louis has learned his name very well.
My standard poodle is Leroy. I'm amazed how well they get along. Leroy is so nice. Louis shows signs of... being older? (I don't want to call it aggression like some people will call it) He will growl if Leroy gets too close to a toy Louis is obsessing over. When he lays down to rest, if my cat or Leroy gets close (likes sniffing), he will growl. I've corrected the growling over toys because there is no need for competition. I just shoo animals away when he's resting. Louis does not like to be bothered when someone wants to join HIM, but he has no problem laying down next to Leroy, since it's his own choice.
I took him over to my friend's house (she has six dogs), and two of her dogs would NOT leave him alone. Sniffing in his face, all near his butt - he growled a lot. And even showed his teeth. When the dogs would get rowdy (in my, and Louis's opinion - for no reason), he did NOT like it. He doesn't like unnecessary boisterous activity (but he will be very boisterous at his own house with me and Leroy). Her dogs were antsy and whining and pacing, and the two dogs were around him again, Louis snarled at them. I didn't correct this behavior because those dogs were being really annoying. They were big dogs btw. I guess he felt overwhelmed. He is okay with polite big dogs (like Leroy) and dogs his size. He's actually great with dogs, and scared of people. Unfortunately, my husband has been traveling a lot. He's kind of "forgotten" about my husband and is scared/cautious around him again. So they need to get reacquainted.
I'm part of another forum and someone had to return a rescue because he bit her daughter. The dog was sleeping on the couch, the child was trying to climb up, and I guess he was startled and bit. Louis does not like children so I always wonder if he would bite someone. When I walk Leroy and Louis - Leroy is struggling to say hi to whomever, Louis is barking and running the opposite way.
Here's some pics of the two. Louis loves Leroy and he will sit next to him and practically walk/sit on Leroy's face. Leroy is a good sport. I was trying to get Leroy to get up for a bath, he laid down on his side, wouldn't budge, Louis thought this was a game and was jumping and trampling all over his buddy and Leroy didn't care! I love when Louis gets hyper and happy and he starts jumping and snorting. What is not cute is that Leroy (giant poodle) tries to RLH like Louis.
