Geez my mom has had tzu's forever and they are the most docile dogs. Something is amiss with that guy.

I don't blame you. Some people have no clue to how to take care of animals... It is sad.

i wanted to say somthing to him, but i didn't want to be rude....... and what really bugs me is the he also had an airedale terrier, and it was in a flat buckle collar, if anything, the collars should be switched around because im guessing that a choke collar wouldent hurt the big dog as much...

I took Maddie and Zoey on a walk today I hadn't had them on a leash for a few months. They both had there harness on .Zoey pulls so hard she chocked herself even with the harness silly girl. I tried a chock chain once because someone recommended it to get her to walk on a loose lead. I spent like $15 for a two minuet ordeal She was doing her usual pull and chocking and coughing I took it right off.

Maddie at 5mo old

For another opinion: The man had not trained his pups to walk on a leash properly. I could put a choke chain on Rosie and take off and she would walk beside me and the chain would never tighten. If it had been me, I might had tried to show him how to get them walking--would depend on whether he was bigger than me.

You are right about that part, Lucile, any collar is only as harsh as the hand that holds it. (we say the same about bits in a horse's mouth). The trouble is that the people who usually feel the need to resort to harsh collars (and harsh bits) are the ones who won't put the work into teaching their animals to behave properly on milder equipment.

...And we've all seen dogs choking themselves on plain, flat collars. In that case, the "mild" collar can be abusive too.

When encounter someone like this I keep a good distance and ask (even though I know the answer) "Are they friendly?" , "Nooooo" is the (sometimes) embarrassed response.
I suggest (in a forceful, friendly manner) "You must get them socialized, it's never too late".
