Chews

What kind of chew "things" do you give your Havanese? I always heard rawhide is a no no.

Mine love bully sticks but they are expensive and don't last long. Great for puppies, though. Mine also love hooves, which are cheap and last a really long time.

I try to buy American . . But the American Bully sticks at PetsMart smell and only last a couple of days . . .where as, a 6" China made bully stick lasts about three weeks and doesn't smell.

Isabella absolutely adores her bully sticks. Until I discovered where they came from, I was too LOL

Does the lack of response mean you don't give them "chews"?

Tillie has a full antler and one cut in half... she also has various 'empty' marrow bones.
She gets Bully sticks a few times a year, Christmas, her birthday, etc... not very often because she goes through those in an hour and they stink and are expensive! LOL

Himalayan dog chews are Cey's favorite, but he also likes hooves and sweet potato treats. Rawhide is OK if it's the pre-shredded kind. Sometimes I get him a bone treat (the kind with some dried meat on it) but I take it away from him once he starts to actually chew up the bone itself...

I give curly chews which I refer to as flossies. The ones I buy are made in the USA, are odor free and 6 calories per inch. Admittedly, they comprise a large part of his diet so he receives a 9-11 inch flossie (66 calories) per day. This keeps him busy almost all day, on and off, as he chews it down to a stub (then we toss to avoid a chocking hazard). I supplement them with a one-a-day vitamin, fruit and veggies, and additional protein. I don't calorie count. Eli appears to have a very good weight (15lbs) and muscle tone. Additionally, I watch his poop. If he poops a good amount daily I know he's getting enough. Not scientific but it worked for my kids so.... This might be TMI but know that a flossie could make your Hav reject his/her normal food that day. Hope this helps.

Smile Chews for Havanese

Try the Himalayan Dog Chews, they are made from Yak and Goat Milk, don't get soggy...never messy, the dogs LOVE them. I get mine from Amazon.com because they are the least expensive that I've found and they last forever (or so it seems)...

The two favorites at my house are bully sticks and the Himalayan chews. I get the low odor bully sticks from bestbullysticks.com and they come from free range Brazilian cattle.
