First doggie ER trip

First doggie ER trip, and I think it was worse on me than it was on Trooper. LOL

He pulled the non-skid ring off of the bottom of his food bowl and ate some of it. He proceeded to vomit a lot and wouldn't keep water down, so off to the doggie ER we went...

We skipped the xray...they told us there's no guarantee they'd see anything, and even if they see nothing it doesn't mean there isn't a piece in his tummy still. I guess rubber is VERY hard to make out on an xray, unlike rocks and bones and stuff. We opted for an injection of anti-nausea med to settle his stomach, and since we weren't to let him eat or drink for 8 hours, they really insisted on some fluids under the skin to keep him hydrated during that time. Then after the 8 hours expired we're to feed him a VERY small portion of chicken and rice and continue a bland diet for 4 days to let his tummy settle. He ate some chicken and rice at about 10pm, and the poor guy scarfed it down because he was so starving!!! (He vomited lunch and had to skip dinner.) An hour and a half later, all is well with keeping that down.

My concern now is that he did not drink with his dinner or since then even. I'm hoping it's just because he got those fluids and they said it takes about 12 hours for all that fluid (it's really not as much as it sounds like here). He was NOT dehydrated to start with, so I'm thinking those fluids are squelching his thirst. We'll see what he does in the morning in regards to drinking water. If he still isn't drinking I'll call the vet again. I'm sure he'll be eager for some breakfast though!!!! He'd eat a cow if I let him. He loves his food. If he does well tonight and doesn't get sick again (and keeps the food I gave him down) I can feed him 3x a day with a bigger portion than he got tonight.

I have to keep an eye on him when that anti-nausea medication wears off (about 24 hours after they gave it) and if he starts vomiting again, I am to take him back there.

I think *I* did worse than he did! I was a nervous wreck!

I *was* pretty excited to see his weight though. He had a huge growth spurt from week 10 to week 12. 4lb 11oz at 10 weeks and 6lb 6oz at 12 weeks. He's 14 weeks tomorrow and he weighed 6lb 13 oz. Seems like his growth spurt slowed down a little bit.

I get to bathe him tomorrow after all that mess today. I think he got it on his paws because he STINKS. Did not want to stress him out with a bath today though. When we got home we made him take it easy...which for him is TOUGH because he's definitely not a lazy guy...he loves his toys!

It was an impromptu trip over that way. I went to that Tuesday Morning over by you and thought I'd see if you were there. I'll email ya or call you or something to arrange a visit. Don't worry, I don't usually 'just stop by'.

He's fine this morning. He ate breakfast. He still hasn't drank any water but I'll give him a little more time before I worry too much.
