I feel very lucky!

I took Louis to a pet store today. There were three women laughing and giggling at him (cause ya know, I gave him weird a haircut and a dye-job!) and they were staring at him and kind of invading "his space." Now, any other dog would be wagging his tail and welcoming the attention. Louis did NOT like it. He growled at those women! And he backed away trying to hide behind my legs. I just told them that he's shy. However, he responded well to the groomer who came out (she's a friend of mine), and she looked at him calmly and didn't try to approach him. I told her he was shy. Not once did she move towards him or try to pet him. I think he didn't like the other ladies cause he could feel their intention to grab at him. He wagged his tail at my groomer friend.

I feel like he vibes well with people who are dog people who "get it." I feel very privileged to be one of those people to him. I see how he interacts (or lack thereof) with strangers and it amazes me how he took to me instantly. I met with his handler who handed him to me. Of course at that time I had no idea what his personality was like, and that he actually does not like to be held unless he completely trusts you. I've seen him squirm and try to leap out of other people's arms. When I held him for the first time, he was fine. I've seen him trying to be walked by a stranger, and basically he tries to run away when the leash is being put on and he doesn't follow the person on the leash. The first few hours I had him, I put a leash on him easily, walked him, AND he eliminated. I'm just thinking of everything retrospectively and I feel honored that he trusted me so quickly! After only knowing me for 24 hours, I took him out in public to a pet event. I held him the whole time, and also sat with him for a couple of hours with him in my lap. He was so relaxed and just people watched and dozed off. He doesn't like sitting in strangers laps!

He is used to my husband by now, runs up to him, licks his hands, follows him around the house, but he still doesn't want my husband picking him up. I think he'll be okay with it in the next couple of weeks. This little guy amuses me and amazes me everyday! And I feel so lucky!

You are lucky he really took a liking to you from the get go I think that is really cool. It takes my Zoey a bit to warm up to strangers I hold her and ask them to just say hi . She is worse if I leave her on the ground will bark and shy away. But when I pick her up and show her their face and if they are nice will just say hi and put their hand out for her to sniff she calms down and is fine. My two are defiantly mommas girls they are the best friends I have ever had.

I feel like we were meant to be together.

I was hesitant to get him even up to the last minute, but on my way to get him, a song on the radio came on that was the title of his registered name. And other signs kept popping up. Then he acted like he's been with me forever from the beginning, so even more reason I think it was meant to be.

I really understand what you mean
" I get it." It took me 50 something years and I finally got it. I am blessed and very happy with my boys.
