My worst nightmare just (almost) happened!

I let my daughter take Cass for a walk. She was at the park across the street when Cass managed to pull the leash out of her hands! Yes, Cass bolted straight across the street and came right home! Great that she came home, but my work in getting her to stop at the corner and wait till there are no cars flew right out the window! There was a car, but it did stop and was far enough away to do so. I am so glad I didn't see this happen!
It happened with our other dog when she was three, she thought it was great fun to bolt across to the park, but that time she ran right into a suv!
I tried to stop her, but thankfully she hit the car and not the other way around, and bounced right off the tire and bolted back home! I was sure she was gonna die even afterward, but other that being scared to death, she was ok. She never did that again!

Thank heavens....a good outcome. It almost makes your heart skip a beat when you hear or read something like that.

Someone on the forum, named Dave, posts a lot of good suggestions, posted a link to a whistle recall. I am sorry but not sure where or what. I did what this training session suggested....whistle blowing and intensive treating...couple times a day. It seemed to suggest that it would take a while....well I am so proud Izzy responded almost immediately.

We still practice everyday, once or twice, a whistle is always around our neck when we take her for a walk and one hangs by the door. I can hide and she finds me and I mean immediately stops what she is doing and frantically runs to me.The article stated that it was one of the most important things...calling your dog in an emergency situation...Worked for us.

Maybe search whistle, if you can't find it let me know and I will try to locate the article. I printed it out but have misplaced it.

yup, that is my worst nightmare. both my big and little boys are not afraid of cars. they've never had a reason to be, so they will just jump out onto the street (pull), to chase something or mark a tree. I always have them on leash if we are near a street. glad your pup is ok. whew!

I can relate your heart stopping....a leash pulled from your hand or..........the collar slips off their neck. It is frightening!
