Mixed thoughts on our evening...

We went to a great bridge by the river tonight for a walk. It was just GORGEOUS outside and everyone was in a fun mood!

We went down by the water and I sat down (see picture. LOL) and was watching the kids play near the water. 2 ladies with mini shnauzers were headed our way, so I got the cheese out to distract Tillie and KEEP her relaxed, even though she typically does okay with small, friendly dogs. Anywho, they came closer and started talking to me. I told them that sometimes Tillie freaks out around other dogs, especially big dogs and they went OFF talking about how in THAT situation I should HOLD her down on her BACK to make her 'submissive' and they were very proud that they can "pin" their dogs down at any time in any situation. They said, 'yes, you should be able to put your dog on her back at any moment and they shouldn't struggle." uhhhhhhh... let me get this straight, IF my dog were scared and fear barking at another dog, I should put them in thier most vulnerable postition (on thier back) and hold them there, belly up with this other dog right there?? uhhhhhh, NO thank you! oh and they were bragging about thier dogs being AKC (I didn't mention Tillie was TOO. hello!???) and they were going on and on about CEASAR MILAN (ugggg) and how they trian thier dogs and how many puppies thier dogs have had, etc, etc. sigh. I was mostly quite as I had no interest in an argument. I am right. they are messed up. LOL The proof was in the pudding, as as they were walking by to walk away thier dogs started CRYING, fear barking at TILLIE!!? LOL Tillie kind of looked at me like, 'what's THIER problem?" we had been near each other for about 10 minutes with no issues (between the dogs). AND as we continued our walk we could hear the dogs carrying on and on and on, I have no idea WHY as we didn't see any more dogs on our walk!? Oh and these dogs had HORRID face staining.

ANYWHO, as we continued our walk we came across a little boy maybe 1 yr old, his parents a few feet away and Tillie went up to him, wanting to jump but realizing he was little, and she SAT for him (on my command, of course)!!! He had SO much fun with her little wiggle butt. LOL she had a hard time staying still as she wanted to LICK him and love him so bad, but she sat and let him 'play' with her. I was so proud of her!! As we said goodbye, the parents mentioned what a wonderful dog we had.

So, ya, an interesting night for sure!! Just wanted to share!

Nice pictures! Thank you so much for sharing. One day those other dogs are going to bite! How old were the people with the dogs?

Tammy:

Your Tillie is very well behaved, and so are you. I commend you for biting your tongue and not saying that those women are woefully ignorant.

It looks as if your weather was as nice as ours today (upper 70's). Enjoy.

you're absolutely right on this one, Tammy. Submission in dogs is something that should be volunteered not forced upon. Asking a dog to "put themselves in a vulnerable position" is only going to increase their fear. This is a form of flooding that takes place on the DW all the time. Good for you.

LOL Angie! I love that shirt too... disguises my belly!!

I think the 'moms' were in thier 40-50's and the dogs were young ish, probably around 3 or 4...? I felt bad for the dogs.
There is so much ignorance in this world, it is frustrating.

Thanks Jody! I do love my little white dog!!

Starr, yes it was down right HOT today AND our electricity was out ALL day long!!! grrrrrr... so we spent the afternoon playing with the hose and washing cars and the evening walking along the river! My kids had a hard time at first but by the end of the day they were like, Can the power go out everyday!? LOL It was at least 90 degrees. if this is April, I'm gonna be hating life come August!!
as for being well behaved, wellllll.. I hate confrontation, so it is somewhat easy for me to bite my tongue... not sure if it is the chicken in me, or if I am being "polite"!

She does look adorable!

A note of caution with the blending shears. Don't do what I did the first time. Because there are little teeth, the hair get stuck. I noticed this and stupidly ran my thumb along it to brush the hair off. New shears are very very very sharp.

TTFN,
Pam
