Another grooming nightmare

I took Sophie to my regular grooming place today for a shorter summer do
because she is blowing coat really bad. I had her groomed 3 weeks ago and she was beautiful. I told the groomer to leave her head and tail and cut the body short. When I picked her up she was shaved all over. When I asked the groomer why she shaved her head she just looked at me.
I am shaking, I'm so mad. When I got home I called to complain to the manager, but "she" answered the phone. I blew her out and asked her if she always does whatever she wants instead of what the owner tells her.
She had nothing to say.I will speak to her manager, but for now, Sophie is
really ruined. It will take a long time to grow this one out.
It does help to vent and read how many other people this happens to.
How do these terrible groomers keep their jobs?
I would send a picture but I'm too upset to take a picture of her.
I dread my husband coming home because he will be more upset than me.
She is his baby. Oh, well, it will eventually grow out and "Amy" will never touch her again. Everyone always says be specific about what you want, but
what good is that if they just ignore your instructions?

Write it out....go over it with them step by step AND tell them if they do not follow your instructions you are not going to pay for it...that usually gets their attention....I have found I really have to just start being a kind of mean to get my point across....the woman I took mine to was hit and miss...one of the girls that work for her does grooming on the side so I started taking mine to her and it is better than what it was...she flat out told me that the owner of the salon I was taking them to would tell them that A) if there were any mats at all they were to shave the dog and B) she would do what she thought was best for the dog regardless of what the owner wanted....

One would think she would have a hard time staying in business but she is always packed and if you ask anyone around here for a great groomer her name is usually the one they give out....very frustrating

Yes it WILL grow out eventually but I know how you feel....I actually cried when they cut Smokey's tips and shaved Sissy......hopefully your husband won't take it too hard!

Awwwwwww Sharon! (((((((Lots of Hugs))))))) I am so sorry, so very sorry. Vent all you want! We will listen. We have seen many short haircuts and they are as cute as can be. When the pups are really matted and tangled up, the only decent thing to do is to shave. Since we do not have the picture to look at, we can't fuss too much. So, take the picture and let us fuss with you. ((((((Hugs More))))))

I am sorry the groomer didn't listen to you. I have had that reaction with my dog, that the cut was too short. It took me about a week to get used to it. The good thing is, as long as they are comfortable our dogs don't care how they look.

Luckily Sophie has not looked in the mirror. She was not matted. She was groomed 3 weeks ago. Here are the very sad pictures. Before she looked like her avatar.

Sophie is absolutely a gorgeous little dog. I would be upset though, too, if the groomer used clippers instead of scissor cutting to save time.

Oh Wow...Looks like a different dog. So sorry you had a bad experience. It will grow back and she is still a sweetie. But I would feel just like you!!

I'm sorry about her haircut. If it's any comfort, she still looks cute after!

I hope you don't swear off all groomers! Not all of us are like this. I too, hate groomers who go clipper happy with everything. If the whole body of a dog is very matted, I will not demat because it's a very large surface area, BUT, I always call the owner before I shave or cut anything. I never touch ears or tail unless the owner specifies. And even then, a quick phone call isn't hard to do! That groomer should have called to make sure what you wanted done to the head, even if it was matted. I will always demat ears, tail, and face - if it is pelted then that is another story, but it does not sound like Sophie was in a bad state. Dematting does take time, but sounds like the groomer just wanted a quick groom and shaved the hair. I'm really sorry you had to experience this.
