Name tag danger

As some of you know a while back Nigel was out on my back deck and his name tag got caught in between the slates of wood and it pinned him down on the deck and he couldn't move.

I have been looking for a solution and I think I found one.

I found this website and ordered each of the boys one it fits on a regular collar and does not hang.

http://www.boomerangtags.com/store/list.php?A=G&ID=5

I just wanted to let everyone know in case they may have the same situation at their home, I have a fence in yard so my boys go out and play in the yard alot, and it was making me a nervous wreck.

I have a over night soccer tournament in October and I am leaving the boys with my older daughter, she's good with them, but she's not me. So this will give me peace of mind.

Peace, Love & Havanese

Oh my Paige, i bet that was scary. I am so glad Nigel is ok.

I have read about that before & have seen what they call 'breakaway collars' for this reason alone. It was invented because someone lost their dog because of that reason. My guys dont wear a collar at home, only when we travel. I will attach a link for more info on the collars. I am glad he is ok!!

I normally wouldn't put a collar on them in the backyard, but my neighbors grandson has found his way in my back yard to visit the dogs and I'm afraid he's going to leave the gate open. I put a different latch on it but I would never underestimate what a small child can do.

I have a collar tag for Nico that I got from Boomerang tags. It's actually on his harness. He wears a regular tag on his collar. The collar tag isn't as easy to read as his regular tag from Boomerang (a blue plastic one which is the nicest tag I've seen), but it gets the job done and I like it. I hadn't even thought about the dangers of the hanging tag - thanks for the warning.

If i lived anywhere else but here, I would definately have them in collars 24/7.
but i am thankful of where i live because collars are such a pain to deal with & they cause mats etc..
I used to live in an apartment with my Poms & everything about that was a PAIN!

I don't keep collars on mine, because I am afraid of the matting. I have a long hair cat and had to cut his collar off, because it got all tangled in his hair. But I like those tags from Boomerang. All of their tags are on their harnesses.

Neat idea!

I've never heard of the deck/tag danger, but I can see how it could happen Poor Nigel.

I almost always keep a collar and tag on Gucci, I'm paranoid about her getting loose. The day I take it off, she'd probably sneak through the fence of something, Murphy's Law.

She doesn't get mats from the collar, but she sure does from the harness!
