Finally...Before and After Renovation Pictures

I spent all night Friday trying to find pictures of how things looked when we purchased this house in 2007. It was in rough shape. It has taken us a few years but is almost where we want it to be. The only work we have hired out was the installation of the countertops in the kitchen and the cement truck for the back patio (DH did the actual prep and smoothing).
He is currently working on the entrance (notice is not done yet) and the basement which is almost done.

PS: I forgot to bring pics of the bathrooms (I am at work now) and could not find any pic for the outside or Baths BEFORE any remodeling, so you will have to see only the AFTER. Judge by the way the Kitchen and outside looked, then imagine how were the bathrooms... (I'll bring those tomorrow).

So here is a view of the front of the house. Before, it had a red wood door, a Dormer on top of the window, the window was made of glass and small 1' x 1 ' squares. All the windows were brown wood and glass and the siding was grey cedar (old and rotten). The roof was Grey and over 30 years old. That little roof over the stairs is new, as well as the columns. There was a thin cement walkway that went from the stairs to the street and the stairs were crumbling with black iron railing.

Here are two views of the back before and after and one of DH, my Stepdad and one of my sons taking the eat in kitchen window out and installing a sliding door.

The back wall of the kitchen had a bay window, a door (to the right of that) and a smaller window over the sink. Now it has a Silding door where the Bay window was, the door and window over the sink were closed and a sliding window was installed right between (Center) where the door and window previously were.

Kitchen View 1 (where the window over the sink was). To the right of the sink was a Mudroom/sunporch. It had storm windows and one door (wall to wall) no insulation at all.
Now, is open to the kitchen, completely insulated with one door and a big double window. This is now the boys' game room and where the dogs sleep and stay when we are not home.

Kitchen view 2 (right across from the view on the previous picture)
There was a half wall/opening separating the kitchen from a "laundry area". That came down to make the kitchen bigger. Also the door and window to the mudroom came down to make the kitchen open to the gameroom. The refrigerator is NOW where that wall and double oven were.

I have not edited these pics, just made them smaller, so pls ignore the lack of light.

Kitchen View 3 - Island

To the right of the above pic in the After Picture you'll see a piece of the Island. This pic I took it Friday night while looking for pics, note the CDs next to the computer.
In the BEFORE pic, there is an empty space where the old refrigerator was, which didn't work, hence you see a new fridge in the Old pics too.

Wow, Zury! If you hadn't explained what had happened, I would never have guessed these photos were the same house! Beautiful! And I am SO impressed teh your husband did all that work himself. Dave is a love, but he's not very handy. (he's not even as handy as he THINKS he is!) He's a CPA, and I (half)jokingly tell people that I couldn't find someone rich, so I married someone who would do my taxes!

We did a fair amount to our old (pre-kids) house, but we were both working full time then, with plenty of disposable income. Then we moved to the farm, and while this was the right move because it allowed me to keep my horses and continue riding, even though our income went way down, (I stopped working outside the home) it also made us SERIOUSLY tighten our belts. There was no extra money for "improvements"... just for maintenance.

Fortunately, both boys have chosen state universities, and I am working again. Between that and the unbelievably low mortgage rates, we were able to do the addition. Our net monthy costs will actually be almost exactly the same as before the addition because we were able to give up our office rental in the middle of town. (at least until the assessors see how much bigger the house is... then the taxes will hit!)

I LOVE the photo of your son helping with the window... right down to the tool belt. While my kids hadn't been born when we added the family room to our current house, my nephew was over quite a bit "helping".

Karen, I tell DH all the time I married him for his money, not the one he has now, but the one he will have once he wins the lottery. I just hope I am not in a wheelchair by the time he actually wins it!

He is VERY handy, as well as my Stepdad! The boys always like to help him, they enjoy working with him in whatever project he is working.

I'll get some Bathroom pictures tomorrow.
