thought I'd share the info. what I can remember
So I think it was Italy, researchers wanted to unravel the meaning of the tail wag. so they had the dog meet:
1) the owner
2) unfamilar person
3) unfamilar dog
what they found was, when the dog is 'happy' or knows the individual, the tail wags to their right side (more than the left) and if it's an unknown dog/person, the tail wags more to the left side. This was measured taking the angle of the dog's tail from stills of the video, the greater the angle the greater the wag. so the greatest right side wag was for the owner of course.
I couldn't resist and had to see of my three, if I could 'tell'. and I could with my big girl, Kara. it was very obvious.
also, the researchers found out that dogs can infer, exclusionary inference. meaning that if you put 3 known objects infront of the dog, and then the 4th is a totally unknown object, and you said, 'give me X' (a made up name for the 4th object) the dog will be able to figure out you want the unknown object by process of elimination. yup, pretty cool. there was a bunch more info on various research about dogs from around the world. yeah, our guys are pretty smart!
so let's do some research on the tail wagging... folks report back, I am so curious.
