Wait how long before switching new puppy from breeder's food?

The breeder is currently feeding the puppy Kirkland (Costco), which seems to be an okay food, but not great. But, I am hearing that even though I want to switch him, don't do this right away? I was going to do 2/3 old and 1/3 new for a while and work from there...

Should I just wait a month or how long is best for the puppy to get comfortable?

This is a tough one for me b/c I want a more nutritious food, but also want my pup to adjust well.

Thanks.

I bought new before they even came home. I would just do about half and half for about a week. The kirkland food is made by Diamond and there has been a bunch of recalls you need to look up the batch number and date it was manufactured. Your breeder hopefully was aware of all the problems. What puppy food are you going to buy? I used blue buffallo because the vitamins are friezed dried . Other brands cook them at a high heat so the nutrients are cooked out. I guess their advertisements sold me. Now because of everything I have heard about dog food I use Acana . Its made in Canada and they have stricter regulations on the grades of meat.

I would not change the food for at least two weeks, as you are probably feeding treats, they are a new food watch how your pup does with these first, some of the foods are just too rich in the beginning. My new girl is 2 and tiny it has taken almost 3 months to get her on the same diet as the others, the food was just too rich, she needed to gain muscle and ease in to our active lifestyle, for her it was a slow going, each dog is different, take it slowl
Diamond food had a good rateing under the Cosco/kirkland, it has had problems at it SC plant, the lot numbers are listed. Our feed stores here always have Diamond under the Diamond name, it is very popular with field breeders it was at one time, one of the few kibble nfoods that had chicken (not by product) as its first ingredent and had a good price point. Remember many dogs do well on the mass market brands, so a few weeks on what the breeder was using is not going to effect the health of your pup, what we feed our dogs is a choice often driven by what we can pay, so give your pup time to ease into new foods kinda like a human baby.

Poohkey miss you, monkey.

When I change food for a new pup, it is after a couple weeks on the original. The first week I do 1/4 new to 3/4 old and each week adjust 1/4.

I tried the traditional method of mixing the new and the old kibble together. he picked out all the new kibble and ate none of the old.
