Sonic and Aries' 1st long road trip to the Beach..

Well, even tho many questioned my sanity, I just got back last night from a four day (2 full days and 2 travel days of about 7 and a half hours each way) trip to my best friends house around Virginia Beach. It was just me and the two dogs.

Sonic has always been a little bit nervous in car rides, while Aries does fine. Well I specifically bought a new zip line for the trip and had the two car harnesses, and I'm please to say that it worked wonderfully (other than the fact that my car did not have many good anchors for the zip line, I did finally figure it out by using the carseat latches). I had two donut beds and some rawhide chews for them. Sonic was still a little nervous any time we came to a stop and would stand up and whine but would quickly settle back down once we got moving again. The trip back they were so exhausted (playing with my friends 50lb dog, 5 year old kid and their 1st trip to the beach) that they barely moved even when I stopped for gas or potty breaks.

As far as the 1st time at the beach, Sonic was a little nervous and not sure about the water (although he loved all the people). Aries was so curious about everything and even had a ball swimming a little bit (being so tiny she got tired quickly) and when she wasn't in the water she really loved being in the sand.

Here are a couple pictures of them at the beach, the last one is of them in the car when I stopped for gas on my way home..

Suprisingly the sand wasn't as bad as I had expected.. They dry out really quickly and after we got back to my friends house I combed them both out really good and gave them a bath today at home (silly me forgot their shampoo or I probably would have given them a bath at my friends), but even so they really weren't all that dirty..

I dread it when our two paddle in the shallow waters on the sand,as they come home thick with salty sea and muddy sand,it was okay when they were puppies,as their coats were so fine, but now it is a nightmare, but they do love it!

Kodi's coat is easy to brush the sand out of when he's dry. If it's a one-day beach adventure, I usually bathe him after the sand has been brushed out (even the next day if I'm tired) just to get the salt out of his coat. If it's a multi-day beach trip, we do daily brush-desanding, and the bath waits until after the last dip in the ocean!

Don't know which is which, but I particularly enjoyed the pics of the doggy gazing out at the ocean. It looks like he is lost in deep thoughts. Or maybe I am reading too much into it. In any case... it looks like a great time!
