Console Dog Car seat?

Does anyone have one of these? Tips? Thoughts?

I'll attach a picture below, but it is a car seat that goes in the center of the 2 front seats, mostly for SUV"s or trucks? I don't think it fits in regular cars, but I'm not totally sure on that just read it somewhere along my googling them yesterday.

I think it would be perfect for us. We have a road trip coming up and Gucci is a PITA on road trips...in my lap, or hopping from driver to passenger seat (to have whoever is there scratch her head!) and sticking her nose out the window. I feel like the WORST dog mom ever for letting her roam free in the car. Its guilt on short trips across town lately, but majorly bad on road trips, especially after I saw this News thing with the crash test dummies on what happens to dogs in the car during an accident (they did a front seat lap and a back seat _ OMFG..... It is horrific.

Anyhow, I like that she would be right close to me and has the vision. I know she's going to protest, but I am prepared to stick it out and let her learn how to ride safely. I stuck out the car sickness and now she loves car rides, so I can stick out the temper tantrum..

I ordered 2 of them from Wayfair ( one has a high back and one is more like a basket) I am going to send one back, but want to know which works/fits better) and i don't have time to exchange and fiddle with it) But am curious on if anyone uses one.

Thanks!
Kara

I have the beige one. It was a pain to install in my car, but I did it. It was just a matter of getting it totally secure. I have a Honda Odyssey and it is a little tight between the seats-I have to keep the armrests up. Lizzie seems to like it. If she is not buckled in it she is in my lap.

It makes a great purse holder, too.

Thanks for asking that question. I also looked at these but wasn't sure Kiki would fit. I ended up with the same brand, look-out type, just not console. Kiki was a roamer so I had to put her in the Sherpa carrier anytime we went somewhere. I spent a lot of money on the car seat and was worried she'd still be a pain in the rear but she adapted quickly. Now that I have Kai, I'm debating on a second single car seat or a double. Wish I could take a buddy version out on a test drive to see how they do together!

For the longest time, Aries road in a car seat similar to those pictures but in the passenger seat or backseat depending on if we were both in the car or not. She loved it, Sonic wanted nothing to do with any of the car seats we tried (multiple returns and exchanges). So now in order to keep them both safe, and happy, we have installed a Zip Line in the backseat that I hook both of them to, in their harnesses. This seems like the best solution for us now with two since they can still be together or have a little roaming space, while still being safe. Plus, the Zip Line means not having to move the car seat anytime we might have a full car.

Sorry, this doesn't really answer the main question of the thread, but I do think if I had know about the consol seats, we may have tried them too. I definitely think a dog that fusses in the car is a lot happier when they are closer to you than if they had a seat in the back.

Same as you, Kara, I'm a bad mom. Kodi always ride in my lap and loved sticking his head out the window. Very bad, I know. I got the darker one for Kodi. It doesn't make him completely happy, but it's better for me. I have a Santa Fe and it fits a bit snug.

I just replied in the New Jersey Law post that I now use a seat belt harness for Timmy. I used to use the car seat but he didn't seem to like it and on long trips it seems to scrunch him up. I don't know about you but if I don't have my armrest on my console I'd go crazy. I do put him in the front seat with me with it's just the two of us (my airbags turn off) but if I have a human passenger he will happily sit in the back too, I'm lucky.

I am guilty of not securing my hav too. She does stay put though and is never annoying on any type of trip ... Lynne, you said you have a Honda Odeessey, so do we! Does it have straps or something that go around that console table or something?? Ours doesn't have a console like in these pictures where it opens up, it's just like a little table...?

I think it's part luck and part training. Kodi wasn't happy being buckled in in the beginning either, and he liked it less in the back seat than the front. (our air bags don't operate with a weight under 70 lbs on the front seat) But it just wasn't optional. He got buckled in every time we got in the car, no ifs ands or buts. He has always ridden in a donut bed sitting on the seat of the car, and has been fine with this. It's a lot easier than getting a booster in and out when you need the seat for people.

Now he's just used to it, and since he loves going places with people, he accepts the fact that he's going to be harnessed in. In fact, one day when I was very harried over something (don't even remember what) I buckled his harness on, and drove to where ever I was going. I got there only to realize that although he was wearing his harness, I'd never remembered to put the seatbelt through it... and he'd never moved. He curled up in his bed, just as he always does, and stayed there!

Yes, the straps fit around the table between the front seats. I had to secure the straps to the metal posts that hold the table to the floor. The only complaint that anyone has about it is that it is hard to pull the cup holder out. I keep my water bottle in the door.

I LOVE my Odyssey. It is an 06 and looks and runs like new.

I don't think she will be *that* happy with the seat, in fact..I expect her to bitch moan and whine for an hour before she settles down to sleep in it. I had a hard time finding one without Sherpa lining. That is a bit much for the summer time!

Thanks for all replies! I don't think the back seat is an option, she'd bitch even more to be close to me and the kids would complain about losing shot-gun to the dog..

I will take pictures and let you all know when it gets here and update the thread when we return from our week away.

I hadn't thought about the losing the arm rest, but she is just as annoying when she sleeps on top of my Sobe' or coffee..stretching out on my lap. It is distracting have a dog in the driver's seat, I know its bad. I really hope this goes well and the move into the car seat will be a smooth one.

Here is the ABC news video on it:
