Django has fungus!

Well, the fungal tests came back positive, poor Django has fungus in that area by his ear. Going to start him on anti-fungal meds tomorrow. Add one more to the list! has anyone out there experienced this with their dog?

Poor guy. Did vet say what may cause it?

No, she was talking to fast and to be honest I was more focused on the meds. I am going to the vet tomorrow for his monthly shot (the vet that called tonight wasn't his usual vet, she was the one who saw him 3 weeks ago for an issue with his leg and checked out the area by his ears) so I will get the info tomorrow from his regular vet.

From what I have read, it seems as though part of his issue is his immune system is compromised due to the Addisons and meds so perhaps its harder for him to fight off things such as fungus. He's always had bad ear infections and perhaps they are still an issue, will have the vet check ears out as well.

yeah, I would definitely get some idea of the possibilities. Especially if it's something you can avoid. Hope you get a handle on this. Poor duff.

I would seriously try some colloidal silver spray. Chris Christenson makes some called Peace and Kindness (although you can get other brands from a health food store). I have been singing the praises of colloidal silver lately. It seems to clear up just about everything. My husband used it on poison oak, we use it on ant bites, pink eye, sun burn, and it saved me from getting a sinus infection....it's amazing stuff.

Beth, it is interesting that you mention the colloidal silver. I am treating Finn for again another ear episode. He does have allergies - I had him allergy tested - and we are in the process of changing his food. The shop that is helping me select a food that doesn't contain the problem ingredients is also a grooming shop. I asked the owner for recommendations for an ear cleaner, and she suggested one that contains the colloidal silver. Says it inhibits bacterial growth. Have to be careful with it as it stains - it also has gentian violet in it. For other uses: 'Apply with cotton ball to toes and nail beds where excessive licking is a problem. May also be applied to hot spots and minor skin eruptions.'

poor Django. You are such a good mom. prednisone can cause yeast/fungal issues. But diflucan can really help clear things up fast. But if he continues to have problems... you may want to consider a grain free diet or even a carb free diet as it just turns to sugar that turns to yeast.

Cash has fungal issues from time to time--- but has been much better on a commercial raw diet. alas, his tummy some times rejects the raw diet. So I just found a great canned food that may work for Django. Addiction Canned foods. We just started Cash on the Buffalo. It's mostly meat, a little potato, peas and carrots a very simple food.

also, for now follow your vets advice...but eventually to control it I have found this product that someone here recommended to be terrific. I use it about every 2 weeks.

feel better Django.

Missy, that K9 Ear Solutions is the product I just bought today! I hope this product works as well for us!

Littlebuddy and Missy: Do Django or Cash get dry flakiness of the under skin of their ear flaps? His breeder suggested Emu cream - got some of that today too.

I hope Django improves quickly on his meds!
