Dog food

Hello. I am looking to buy a new dog food for my little Oz. He is not overly excited about the one I have chosen. Innova is the brand. Started out with the small breed meat formula and then switched to the Salmon and herring formula. I am looking for something to improve his coat, it is a little on the dull side. Is there a dog food that can help with the coat without having all the fish in it? I see Advoderm has avocado in it and that is supposed to help with the coat. Would love some suggestions. Thank you.

Roki never liked fish based foods. In October, because of his skin problems, vet recomneded salmon oil capsules and biotin/zinc/methionin pills. Last summer his coat was sort of dull and matting a lot because of that skin condition, but now it is soft, silky, shiny and without any mats. He is eating homecooked duck meat for dinner and gets ZiwiPeak Dog Cuisine Venison (derhydrated adequate to raw diet) for breakfast. I may switch to ZiwiPeak completely because I think he is doing so great on it!
During last year I learned a lot about shampoo ingredients and how the affect dog coat. One important advice that I can give you is to read ingredients section on the label and never buy a shampoo that has sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate (SLS) in it because it takes natural oils from skin and coat and that can lead to dull, dry coat and skin, and in the end cause really bad problems. SLS is harsh detergent that can cause so many problems and even for me I never buy products that contain it. US market is full of wonderfull natural dog cosmetics. Research a little. I use Isle of Dogs Veterinary Grade Evening Primrose oil shampoo. it is grat for skin and coat.

Wink Dog Food

I started using Nutrisca chicken and chick pea for my havanese about a year ago and I am amazed at the difference in her coat and eye stains. She is loving it, it is made by dogswell, you pay a little more but reap the rewards later. Her veternarian even commented on how nice her coat looks. I usually throw one spoonful of wet Vitality with it, it is also made by dogswell. Hope this helps you.

don't go by the coat. A good food will provide a good coat. Add a supplement like fish oil if you want. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=main

Pepper has been eating Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit (bison-based) for years. He loves it and hasn't had any health or coat problems related to his dry food.

So I have switched Ozzy's food from Innova to Nutrisca chicken and chick pea, only because he seemed not to like the Innova. So I have been gradually adding the new food to the old and he has been eating the whole bowl. Well now the stinker is picking out the new food and leaving the old food in the bowl. So much for gradually adding it. LOL

Just bought Nutrisca for my Westie and will probably start my Hav on it when his current food (Castor and Pollux) is gone. I ordered a bag online, but actually found that my Safeway has it!!! AND it was buy one get one free! They only carry the 4lb bags, but that is such a good deal! So I bought 4 bags. My Westie is really sensitive to different foods and this is only day 2, so still unknown whether this will work for him. If it doesn't I know my hav will eat it...he eats ANYTHING!

Point of the post: if you use Nutrisca check your local Safeway

Thanks Kristin. No Safeway around me. I have found Wag.com to be the cheapest and with 4.99 standard shipping. Free shipping with orders over 49 dollars. And with a baby girl Havanese coming I am pretty sure I can spend 49 dollars or more.LOL

It's me again. As you know I have switched Ozzy's food to Nutrisca because I tried two other foods that he would not eat. He would go a couple of days without eating. Now he eats the Nutrisca right up. His coat is actually shiny now. I feed him a half a cup twice a day. My concern is that he poops a lot now, he went from twice a day to 3-4 times a day. Is it because he is actually eating now? Is this normal? Thank you!
