hello :) i"m new here... have a few questions about my pup

hey so i was given this 7 month old pup a few weeks ago. he was purchased by the previous owner at a pet shop and he's supposedly a Havanese. my questions:
*Does he look like a typical Havanese? i saw a few pics online and he doesn't really look like one to me. he has yellow eyes and a weird brown pathc of hair on his face.
*About how long does it take for a dog's fur to grow 3 inches? Poor Boba had to get completely shaved (except for the tail) because his fur was so matted i think he really misses his fur.
*How can i get him to quit fondling his boy psrt? he does it excessively. he can't even finish a walking without turning to chew on it. it embarrasses and grosses me out

thanks so much for any answer you can give

Are you sure it's brown fur and not bad tear staining?

Your avi pic looks Hav-y to me. Chocolates have lighter eyes and brown noses. Were there any chocolate colored spots on the body before you had your pup shaved?

Angie and Trooper

Trooper is a Moptop boy! If only I could think up a registered name...

His face shape certainly looks havanese, can't see what his body profile shot looks like but he's probably at least part havanese. They can have light brown noses and light eyes if they are chocolate colored, so this still fits with a havanese. But in the end, doesn't really matter what breeds he is as long as you love him.

The fur grows quite fast. Someone recently has been posting pictures of their havanese and the regrowth of his fur after a complete shavedown. Within a month or 2 he will have a cuter fuzzy coat and probably a few months to get a fuller coat. Here is the link to that post.

The face looks like tears staining to me. Probably wasn't groomed well and had fur that was bothering his eyes. If you take care of his eyes the darker part should grow out. I use eye wipes to wipe away any gook on the eyes and make sure I comb the hair around her eyes to keep it growing away from her eyes so it doesn't irritate them. Some people keep the hair on the bridge of the nose trimmed short so it stays out of the eyes.

As for the playing with his boy parts: is he neutered? Might want to get him neutered if he isn't. It might just be some irritation from being clipped; imagine having all your "hair" shaved off down there; might be a little itchy for a bit until it starts to regrow. I would have some treats in your pocket and try to redirect his attention when he starts to lick and then give him a treat when he stops licking.

congratulations on "rescuing" this puppy. He will take some time to settle in with you but hopefully he will bring you lots of joy!

Welcome to the forum! Looks like tear staining to me also, it is a red yeast, if the pup was so matted it could be he had irritation of the eyes, he could also have an infection that is causing his licking, if you haven't taken him to the Vet it might be a good idea. Just keeping the hair out of his eyes might help with the some of the staining but if his face smells bad it may be an infection. This stage will pass.

Poohkey miss you, monkey.

I agree. It could be razor burn or infection. I once trim a little too close and Jack was not a happy camper for 2 weeks.

He looks like a happy naked little Hav. What is his name?

My 2 cents is yes, looks like a havanese to me, maybe a chocolate parti with his brown nose and light eyes. I believe the brown is from red yeast stains. My female has runny eyes and gets these tear stains . Angel Eyes is starting to help now that I found a way to get her to take it. Let your baby grow out his coat, ears and beard and he'll be beautiful.

Beth, Pixie Puff and MiG too
