I have Petplan for Ache, not yet for the puppy. My deductible is $200 ( per episode or illness), $12,000 yearly limit and 90% reimbursement. I pay $27.30 / month. They cover congenital conditions.

I think it can be worth it if you get it when they are young. I had Petplan for my 3 but when they refused to pay a claim, I dropped them. Scudder got Lyme disease and they wouldn't pay the bill because they said I didn't use it correctly. They made me show receipts for 2 years of tick prevention, When I gave them the receipts, they said because I was buying the large dog formula and applying it per weight, they would pay. My guys get frontline every month, plus wear a preventick collar........

Bella had liver surgery and fred had patella surgery. Even if I had insurance, those things wouldn't have been covered. Bella's liver shunt was congenital and fred's was pre exisiting. He had it when I got him as a pup.

I think Missy has that and is happy with it. Maybe she will chime in. I called them and there were things I didn't like. They pay a certain amount for each condition. So if you live in an expensive city, where vet bills are high, the money you get back might not be near what you paid..

We do have VPI. And very happy. We got it just 6 months before Cash got very sick. 3500 worth of testing later, we still didn't know what was wrong... VPI reimbursed 2200 of those expenses. There have been a few other reimbursements through the years. Th have been very easy to work with. We pay @ 24 per dog per month.

They pay 80% of customary charges After a deductible. Find out if your vet prefers one company over another... The vet can help you maximize your re-imbursement by how they code it. I was impressed when they dermatologist the boys saw got us almost everything covered.

I have Healthy Paws for Sawyer and my other dog. It runs around $25/month for him (he is 10 months old). That is with a $250 yearly deductable (not per condition), and 90% coverage. They cover genetic condition, but not preexisting conditions. And they cover hip dysplasia after you have had the plan one year I think. I like that they are local to me, but it works in every state and every vet. I have only had to file one claim so far (no complaining there ) It went very smoothly. I had to get the vet to fill something out and fax over all of the medical records. They let me know when they received the records and when they received the claim form, and how much money I now have towards his deductable. So far I would highly recommend them!!
