Why do havs lick their paws. My otis does it and so does my daughters. I have noticed mine does it the most in the mornings. You would think he is a cat. Havent noticed any allergies, etc. Is it just a dog thing?

Kodi did it in the spring. I mentioned it to the vet who said it might be seasonal grass allergies. She suggested wiping down his feet as soon as he came in from outside. That cut down the licking right away.

THen he gradually just stopped doing it anyway. So I think, even though there was no rash or anything to be seen, there WAS something seasonal in the grass that was making his feet itch after he went out.

Tillie will occasionally lick her paws, but I usually snap my fingers to distract her and then get her interested in a game of fetch or something. I don't want it turning into an obssesive behavior!! Oh and I ALWAYS wash her paws when coming in from a walk...
