Anyones Havs have treat rituals?

I give Timmy treats on two occasions, when we're formally training and also when he's done something good when I"m not actually asking him to do something, I'll explain later. When we're training and I give him treats he'll gobble them down right away. Here's the second scenario, I'll give him a treat after we've been outside when I say "Let's go inside and I'll give you a treat.", then it's a whole different story. He has a love affair with these treats. He'll lay down in front of them and just stare admiringly at them, nose to treat. He'll also give them a sniff and prance around in a circle. He'll carry it around in his mouth and deposit them in various places like his bed, in the corner of the room and even go back to move it somewhere else. This game can go on for an hour, it's very funny. Sometimes when he leaves his deposited treats the cats will find them. He gets VERY MAD, charging at Zuzu and ReeRee, barking to defend his little treat, but still won't eat it. So do your havs do anything silly like this? I know if I try to explain thin to my non hav friends they won't appreciate it but I know I'm not the only one out there who has a furball with odd rituals.

Good stuff Jen , I like to keep Molly guessing as to when she might get one. Definitely give them out of the blue for good behavior . One danger with treats as rewards is that they become a bargaining chip. So I like to be unpredictable when it comes to them.

oh yes, we definitely have treat rituals here and if I steer from them, Gucci will just sit and stare at me like..."WTF, this is the wrong treat", lol I have to mix cheese and jerky for after bath grooming and big mat comb out sessions and jerky for bed, I sorta wish I didn't start that one, sometimes I wake up with a piece of jerky stuck to my leg or arm or something.. lol

Gabby has one of those Treat Balls and I usually break up 3 different types of treats in it. She will eat the treats according to her preference... so if the "wrong" treat pops out 1st she leaves it and keeps rolling until she gets her #1 preference, then she'll go around and pick her up her 2nd fave and finally the 3rd...

Brody's funny about his treats. Sometimes he acts like he thinks I am going to poison him and takes forever sniffing at it, instead of just taking it. I swear he's trying to determine whether it's good enough for him! Other times he just gobbles it up.

Sometimes he refuses to take it out of my hand and wants me to throw it and then he has to pounce on it and stalk it for a while (batting it about the room) before he'll actually eat it.

As far as treats go, Rosie gets baby carrots at least once a day. But I have been skipping them since I noticed last week, she came to me to go potty. I took her and I always have to go outside with her and she pooped or so I thought. But it didn't seem as long a time as usual, so I went over and looked. She had not pooped or anything. As soon as we went back inside, she went to the refrigerator for her carrot. That is when I realized I had been giving them to her after a poop in the middle of the afternoon. Dang they are smart. Course I didn't give her one and hadn't until last night and before bedtime, I gave her a carrot. Oh yes she will play with it for a while before eating it. Runs around it, tosses it in the air and tries to catch, etc.

Tillie is VERY serious about treats. never plays with them and inhales them immediatly! lo

She does KNOW she gets a little frozen sweet potato square after her daily grooming and after washing her paws after our walk.... and after nails or paw pad shave she gets dried liver.... and if we are training she gets a hodge podge of her favorites so she never knows what to expect. She loves food. any food. any time. LOL

After the last potty break of the day (before bed). The minute they come inside they go straight to the cabinet and sit in front of it waiting.
