Females or Males?

I am thinking about getting another puppy as a companion for my 3 year old, (8 lb) female, Beanie. Beanie loves to play, but am wondering if she would accept another dog into the household more easily if it were a male than a female? Anyone have insight/experience here? Are the males mellower than the females? I think Beanie will be the dominant dog because of her nature; not sure if another female will cause discord...

I used to have all girl dogs......usually 3 at a time and they all got along. I think either gender would be good. Your girl will probably always be top dog just because she was there first.

Find the best puppy you can. Dominance is a non issue. If you have no preference and you have two equally good opposite sexes , I 'd pick a male.

I would try your dog around lots of other dogs and see how she reacts. I have a 3 year old female and she doesn't like male dogs (especially when they are young and in that "humpy" phase). I got a female pup and they are doing great together.

I love the boys. I don't think you'd have a problem with either sex. Our first was a female and she is definitely the alpha. She gets along with boys and girls, but no one crosses her and she lets them know what she won't tolerate, in a civil way.
