One small step for dog...

One GIANT step for Kubrick! I am so so SO very proud to announce that on our walk today, Kubrick greeted four, count 'em, FOUR dogs! All by himself! He actually ran up to meet the dogs!

I know this may seem like a small accomplishment, but after weeks and weeks of him running away and freaking out, the puppy classes and meeting my aunt's dog have helped out immensely! Also, I do think I've been a lot more positive when meeting other dogs and maybe he's sensing that? Whatever it is that helped his fear of dogs, I couldn't be happier and I wanted to share that happiness with all of you.

I do want to add that things aren't perfect yet as he still gives a wide berth to some dogs and meets others tail wagging (not sure why, but there you go). The important thing is that he doesn't try to run away and flips out. I am so very proud of him and his slow overcoming of his fear that I gave him a big squish when we came home. Not sure if he enjoyed that, but I sure did!

That is a big step forward! Congrats to you and Kubrick. I'll bet a lot of it does have to do with him feeling your emotions. These little ones are so perceptive that way. Training goes a long, long way too and it sounds like you've been doing all the right things.
There are some shy pups at the Saturday small dog walks I go to and it seems that with each passing week, they get a little braver.

Lina,

Great news about Kubrick. Now he can enjoy being the social animal these wonderful babies are meant to be. Milo has yet to meet a dog or person he doesn't like.

No, Between vacation, catching up at work, and preparing for some upcoming houseguests, we haven't been for a few weeks.

Yeah Kubrick!! That's wonderful progress. And Lina, when I lived in NYC I gave wide berth to some people (crossed to the other side of the street even), so I can understand Kubrick doing it with some dogs.

That is such great news, Lina! Congratulations to you and Kubrick. Between the training, your trip and his adventures with the other dog (forgot the name) and Mickey Mouse, it seems that he is really gaining some self-confidence. That is wonderful!

You are making a BIG difference in Kubrick's life. Some people could have chosen to ignore the problem and then the problem would always be. You have chosen to treat the problem and now both you and Kubrick are benefitting. I applaud you both!!!!

Way to go Kubrick~~ I would let him lead as far as giving a wide berth to certain dogs. If you watch the other dog, you may see some body language that is telling Kubrick to stay away -- they seem to be able to tell who wants to be approached & who doesnt.
