Question Traveling with your dog

I wasn't sure where to post this question... hopefully this is the right place.

My question deals more with day to day type traveling in the car with your dog. I've noticed some people have a sort of car seat that they use. Others have a type of seat belt looking thing and some have a combination of both. I, of course, would want my dog safe as well as not being able to crawl all over the car/minivan while I am driving.

What do you use to travel with your dog in the car? If you have any other tips or advice about traveling with your dog, I would love to hear about those too! Thanks!

Well you don't want to put them in the front seat for the most important thing--no matter that all the catalogs show car seats either on the console or in the front passenger seat. I bought a nice car seat for Rosie, washable cover and held in place by the seat belts. It has a metal hook thing to hook to her harness. So if I had a wreck she might fall forward 6 inches or so, but wouldn't hang herself because of the harness. Probably nothing is as safe as a baby's car seat. I put Rosie behind the driver's seat or in the middle of the back seat. The seat costs around $70. There are certainly cheaper ones and I could have saved myself money on getting the elevated one, because she doesn't look out.

i use a seat belt that connects to her harness ... she likes to lay down in the car and cant do that in car seats. The seat belt works great and super easy, clip and go!

I just recently got the Solvit Jumbo Tagalong car seat for Brody.

He really likes it since he can easily see out the window and he just loves it when I open the window for him. This is really a miracle that he likes it because this is a dog that is prone to car sickness and being in the car isn't his favourite thing.

I use it with the Solvit safety harness.

I think he's pretty secure in there. He's comfy and he has a view. Plus he doesn't get my seats dirty.

Kodi doesn't care about looking out the window... He sleeps in the car. He is restrained by the seatbelt through his Vestharness, and sits in a regular donut-type dog bed for comfort.

Beau loves the Snoozer Lookout II -- it allows him to look out the window -- or hang his head out the window. It is held in place by the seatbelt. He is restrained with the included tether attached to his harness. It's big enough for him to sleep if he wants -- but he usually thinks he's driving!!

The solvit is what I got for Rosie. Plenty of room for her to stretch out.

Thanks everyone. We are going to go with a harness for sure, and hopefully invest in some type of raised seat thing so Scooter can see out the window. He definitely loves being in the car (we lucked out with that).
