Patio Door Size?

I am going to put in a dog door for my 2 Havs. It is the type of door that fits into the frame of a sliding patio door. If you have this type of door, will you please tell me the approximate dimensions of the opening? I want to make sure I get the right size. Thanks!

Probably the second size up from the smallest they offer-without looking it up. That's the size we use for the Plexidor's, but I don't remember their size names. The smallest sizes look like they are for very careful cats. Most of the time, our dogs hit the dog doors at full speed.

Thanks everyone. I am installing the dog door so they have access to go in and out of the back door without me opening the door for them all the time. They probably won't have free access all the time, but I want them to have it at least some of the time.

Tom you are probably right, the size up from the smallest will probably work well.

I actually have dog doors now that they have gone in and out of when I have tried it. The doors are in and out through my garage (from my last dog) but I don't want to use them for a few reasons for the new pups. But you raise a good point - make sure they will go through the doors before you install them.

It is easy to teach. Just have their fav treat on the other side. Might have to have someone help you on opposite side to show them, and when they get thru, they get the treat.

I have that exact dog door. You can see it in this picture. I could never live without it!!! I have 3 hav of different sizes and this door works for all of them.
Bella- 6.8 lbs 8.5 inches tall
Fred- 15 lbs 12 inches tall
Scuds- 16 lbs 10.5 inches tall

The actual flap is 8.5 x 10 inches, so I'm not sure what size door that would be.
I'm not sure what the rise is, but the flap starts 4" off the ground. I don't know the brand. I guess I will have to figure that out when I need to replace the flap! But it's held up for almost 5 years now.
